We saw in 1956 what happened when aliens came to Washington DC.

They've been here. Went to Washington DC looking for intelligent life, they left disappointed.

I think I know the reason why now, after watching this vid. It takes so long for light to reach other star systems and much, much longer to reach other galaxies so when those aliens are using a telescope to look at earth, they are seeing an earth from hundreds, thousands or millions of years ago an not the current earth. They won't see any signs of human life.

If they were sufficiently advanced they'd have scout ships communicating via quantum entanglement, in which case they'd be seeing us in the here and now with no kind of delay. They'd also likely have laid beacons behind them at regular intervals to pick up older radio emissions, but that's just my take on it.

Bear in mind that space is HUGE. Even if there were billions of advanced civilizations spread out across the various galaxies of our universe, there's still the potential of never seeing the signs of their existence.

I started watching this show last week on Comcast's On Demand service. The season's final episode is next week so I'm late to the party.

It's good. :great::great:

So far it's looking like the Air Force versus the Men In Black.

Each space particle has the necessary basic energy particles (BEP) for creating any pair of the most common subatomic particles with its respective antiparticle. The perceived reality is achieved through the creation of the time dimension with its forward arrow of time. The time dimension is defined as the continuous “nowtime” snapshots, per cosmic seconds, of the total digital information generated by the two basic energy particles. The Space matrix is analogous to an interactive TV screen while the sequence of the “Nowtime” snapshots making up the film in continuous display. The “Nowtime” information is generated by the various activities of BEP which assume specific combinations and permutations, hence creating what is akin to micro hardwares. The specific characteristics and behaviors of the BEP are also responsible for the software (the laws of physics and laws of chemistry) required for the working of information mechanics of the various perceived physical systems that constitute the universe.

So that's why, when my clock reads 12 noon, I know it's time for lunch !

Hunh... I always wondered about that.  Now I know.

The biggest reason why aliens have not shown up can probably be found in the Drake equation. Yes, nearly every star has its own collection of planets but the conditions that lead to our own planet forming and being where it is now are so damned improbable that it could be quite likely that there are at MOST only a handful of civilizations throughout the entire galaxy. Given the vast distances involved, such a paucity of alien civilizations means these civilizations will likely never EVER come into contact with each other before they go extinct. Before anyone tries to invoke faster-than-light drives, I would like to point out to people that nearly every type of propulsion system proposed requires nearly infinite energy in order to set up the conditions under which the drive would work. SImply put, the universe has made a pretty hard and fast rule about the speed of light. NOTHING outside (read larger) of the quantum level can EVER go faster than light. Therefore the distances between civilizations in the galaxy would be an almost insurmountable obstacle to them ever coming into contact with each other.

Here is a thought. What if no alien life outside the solar system has visited us. But what about alien life within the solar system or even on our own planet? We obviously have the technology to colonize other planets now even if its in its bare infancy but what if there was intelligent life before we became sentient and it spread through the system? Mars apparently was quite livable to humans or at least carbon based life as we know it far in its past and many theories point to a massive impact so violent it pierced the core and stopped the rotation of the metal core which is what generates our magnetic field which repels the radiation of the sun. This had the consequence of killing off even the microbes from the constant ionizing radiation so life never had a chance to regain a foothold and start the long slog of evolution through the eons. But what if before that happened there was another species who gained both sentience and spaceflight millions of years ago? Maybe they created us and are the famed Anunnaki of old who enslaved the planet before being driven off in a global uprising led by the 'younger gods'? Near every single original human culture which had some form of written history thousands of years ago have some type of myth about powerful enslavers with magic like powers who were the scourge of humanity. Many of the very old epic sagas had their origins in such myths and its the place where dragons and other odd beasts seem to stem from. So maybe the 'aliens' are simply The Other that many of the very oldest histories talk about who are still stranded in this system unable to leave but have technology so advanced that travel inside the system is commonplace.

Yep. Most of the good sci fi writers back in the day were well schooled in mythology and re-branded it to appeal to a modern audience. Which also lends credence to a growing theory that the impossible scenes and events described in ancient texts and hieroglyphs might end up being the attempts of primitive societies to describe what would be normal activities today. If you are wanting to describe a flying machine that spits fire(think in terms of an a-10 doing a strafing run on a spear and shield equipped army 5000 years ago) then you will use the things that the audience can most readily understand so an armed aircraft becomes a fire breathing dragon or winged horse with rider who shoots fire arrows or lightning etc. Think of all those murals in India showing the flying chariots and other odd vehicles fighting a great air war shooting what looks like beams and tracers at each other. Were they really mechanical vehicles and the people who witnessed it simply had no other way of describing them in a way that people would not only understand but accept? Much about our ancient history starts to make sense if you hypothetically accept that in ancient times there was high technology but only limited to the ruling class leaving the masses in abject poverty and near complete ignorance of all knowledge except the most basic survival and building skills. Kinda like the system lords in the stargate series though possibly just human and not some reptilian or non human foe. Or maybe they are. :bajan:

The aliens have been visiting us all along and in fact have been ruling us for millennia. It's just that they are sadistic and a lot of what passes for our history is the result of their idea of sitting back to watch the "fun". However, they prefer to remain in the shadows, with the important work of denying their existence being left to their quisling mind controlled human sex slaves. I suspect one may be replying to this very post before too much longer. :trollface:

On a more serious note; we have been on this planet, depending on how exactly you define "we", for something on the order of at least 100,000 years or so. Our current knowledge of history stretches back only about 4,000 years. Our current level of technology could be said to be the result of a "spike" that has lasted only a couple of hundred years or so.  Furthermore, the time that we have been on this planet has been marked by the advance and retreat of at least one ice age. It is well within the realm of possibility that there have been previous human civilizations on this planet which were just as advanced as we are now if not more so. It's just that they either decided to move off planet, or that their civilization couldn't withstand the perturbations caused by ice ages coming and going. So at least one of the possible reasons people think they are seeing high tech craft is because our "cousins" are stopping by occasionally to keep an eye on things. And because within limits "they" are "us" they could blend in real easy if they wanted to.

The other problem is that if you posit that we are being visited/monitored by a very high tech group of people/aliens who are following something akin to the "prime directive" out of Star Trek, then you have essentially established a theory that is well nigh impossible to "prove" in any traditional sense.
