[ST] Highway & Empire's Border

Hey, everyone! 

 

Hope that you’re having a great day! I wanted to share some news about a couple maps with y’all. 

 

The Empire’s Border map is headed straight for the main server. Today, we’ll test small changes which should make TDs more efficient on this map. We’ll also check whether the new location plays well in Encounter Battle and Assault modes. (Yes, soon there will be a new map for these, first time in a while!)

 

What is Empire’s Border Like?

The map has designated attack directions for different vehicle classes, divided by hills and the Great Wall. We’ve taken care of every kind of armored vehicles.

 

 

Zone 1 is for medium tanks, irrespective of their gameplay specifics. There are some shoot-throughs near the Great Wall and there’s plenty of cover along the red line.

 

Light tanks may want to try their luck in Zone 2, which is good for active spotting and blazing-fast breakthroughs. Both tactics are risky but may pay off greatly, giving your side a significant advantage in battle.


Medium and heavy tanks with good gun depression will feel right at home in Zone 3. It is extremely important to establish control over this zone. We expect to see most of the fighting occur here. 

 

Heavies (those not blessed by the gun depression gods) may brawl in Zone 4, on the bypass road. Bring big guns, strong armor and steely-eyed Crews!

TDs will be able to support allies from Zone 5 that has some lush and cozy bushes.


We’re checking the map’s readiness for Random Battles, and we will also assess the viability of Encounter Battle and Assault modes for it.

What about the Highway?

 

Highway is doing well! While re-mastering this location in glorious HD, we did our best to keep its gameplay layout intact. Today, we’ll see if we were successful. So, buckle up and get ready to enjoy the view: the reformed Highway is gorgeous and atmospheric. Warm up your Maus and turn “Highway to hell” on, it’s time to ride!

Highway looks amazing, and the architecture and cars are more accurately era specific. Nice!!! I have always liked highway, looking forward to Empire.

Also, Empire has some resemblance to Fallout 4 mountain terrain . . . ohhhhhhhhh, where is my power armor!

Is it just my imagination or do we have another revised map in Highway whose terrain has been flattened?

This is great to see, and they both look amazing.  Some questions:

 

  1. Are we expecting both of these in 1.2 or whatever the next major patch is numbered? 
  2. Will the next patch also include some other maps we've recently seen in HD, namely, Ghost Town and Widepark?
  3. How close are other maps to release that we've seen recently, such as Lillehammer, Seaport, Airport, Berlin, Guilin, and the two unnamed Grand Battles maps?
  4. Any news you can share on any of the these other removed maps:
  • Dragon Ridge
  • Hidden Village
  • Komarin
  • Mittengard
  • Northwest
  • Pearl River
  • Port
  • Sacred Valley
  • Severogorsk
  • South Coast
  • Stalingrad
  • Swamp
  • Windstorm

What does "heading for the main server" mean? Does that mean we will see them in the next day or two?

Seems like another map where 50% is unusable. Seems like there won't be nearly enough cover from arty in zones 3 and 4 making them completely unusable, not to mention that you'd have to push into camping TDs if they go where the map designers want them to go. TDs and SPGs are the last classes maps should be catering too, they're easy mode enough without being catered to with favorable map design.

 

I honestly wonder if the people over at Minsk actually play their own damn game.

I'm going to apologize in advance because I don't have any information that I can provide at this time about the next patch/what may be included in it. However, I do want to let you know that the timeline of things in ST can be a bit hard to set concrete release dates for. A map could be ready for the live server, then a major issue could be found on its last ST and the release is delayed. Due to this, I'm not usually provided with set dates for implementation of the things currently in the ST, as they change rather often.

 

I can let you know that there will be several HD maps arriving before the end of the year. Also, our map team is working hard to deliver new map content and to rebuild maps from before 1.0. Said teams are working on completing the older maps that are currently being converted to HD, and after that, we hope to reintroduce some of the previously removed maps. 

 

tl;dr I'm sorry that I don't have a lot of info I can share about the status of maps currently in testing, but I can let you know that we understand the desire for the previously removed maps to return. You'll continue to see the release of maps over time, and I'll do my best to keep you updated on the test statuses.

I don't have a set date, but I doubt it will be within the next day or two. It means that we're almost done testing with this map, just finalizing things and doing one more test to make sure things are working properly and are well-balanced.

Ah, that's all good, and what I was expecting, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

 

The parts I bolded sound promising, even if they were mostly known, in a similarly vague sense already! :)

I must be your worst enemy, in that case.  It was always my goal to kill all the scarecrows and squish as many pumpkins as possible.  It would always make me mad when rude tank drivers would start shooting me before I could achieve my goal.
