Serious question

Multiple games today,  either multiple arty on my side, or the multiple arty other on the other side, spent all their time focusing all their fire together on bottom tier tanks. They set up in location where rather help the team by grinding down the top tier heavies, they set up where they would only have shots at lights and mediums. Invariable it is a loss. These are players with well over of 15,000 battles.

There must be a reason for this play style given how prevalent it is. Can any arty players explain the tactical logic? It doesn't seem to make any sense to a non arty player.

I can hit an E-100 for 250 damage or I can hit a RHM for 750.

What's more helpful to my team?

The change in the arty mechanics changed the priority to thin skinned targets.  They'll take more damage and be stunned longer.  With heavies and armored TDs you're depending on your teammates actually doing some damage to them while stunned.

Crippling the top tier heavy. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

Depends heavily on things like positions of the 2 tanks and your team.   If your team is in position and willing to take advantage of the stun, it might be better to hit the E100.  Or, it might be better to hold your fire until your team is in position to take advantage .  Otherwise,  if no teammates are able and willing to take advantage of the stun, the RHM becomes the more important target, most likely.

Hitting and stunning the E100 so that your team can take his gun out of the fight. The E100 is an offensive weapon that is going to win the game for the other team, the RHM is not.

Because it's smart. Priority number one is to take out tanks from the enemy team, doesn't matter what they are. I doubt anyone focuses low tiers but if you have a Maus and a Skorpion G side by side the SMART thing to do is hit the Skorpion G. Once the big slow tanks with slow reloads are isolated it's much easier for your team to deal with them.

I shoot the players sitting in exposed positions that can be remove from the map easily.

Outside of that, I'll often terrorize and encourage others to focus the best players.

Zero remorse.

p.s.

More importantly, I focus on map choke points.

You say that as if I wouldn't support that. I've been supportive of banning XVM stats for years.

However, it still doesn't totally solve the issue.

Only thing worse is the anti arty whine club members, who chose to whine and cry about arty on the forums, when they can go play WoT Blitz...

Most arty guys can't even tactically assess the map and focus support on the flank that will win they just mindlessly drop bombs on what ever is easy mostly heavies instead of choosing to focus that TD thats holding up the flank that will win.

Partial derail, but would you support private stats unless you chose to share, or do you feel stats should be public, just not in battle?

Public, just not in battle. I have no issue with players being able to pull up each others profiles while sitting in the garage. In a game like this, I actually think it's part of the game/experience. On the contrary, XVM stats in-game has brought nothing but toxicity to this community. I used to support it when I first started playing, though I never used the mod myself. However, I changed my position on XVM stats years ago after repeatedly seeing just how toxic it was. It was used to berate players, whine about the MM, excuses to suicide, griefing, and XVM sniping, among other issues.

But while your team is focusing on trying to take out that E-100, the RHM, since you decided to let him live, is wreaking havoc on your team. Sometimes the best strategy is to take out the smaller “weaker” tanks so you can focus on the bigger guns.
