So, something came to my mind today. Why not have a tactical map in the tab screen? We have multiple tabs now, so why not a tab with a tactical map?

  • Heat map
  • "where to go" map
  • Topographical map

I think it would help everyone out.

a long time ago someone had made loading screens with basic tactic maps for whatever map was loading, that would be nice for WG to include. (use the map monday video descriptions for them)

The problem with tactical maps as you get too many people saying, your a heavy why are you not in the heavy area *insert insult*.  Some heavies never go to the heavy brawl area, like the amx 50 100.  Though that is a bigger problem with tanks being classified one way when they really fit another roll.

You get that already.... And the "where to go" map would depend on the tank itself, instead of the class...

The heat map and the topographic map would be viable and useful. Good idea +1.

I think the heat map / where to go map would be a poor idea since it would reinforce specific behavior, reduce creativity, and quite likely offer bad advice for more unique tanks.

You must be basing this on the assumption that most players can read a map, wherein actuality, it is proven that many cannot read it during game play when it is most useful.

Having info is better than not having it.

I don't know about you guys, but where I position on a map is mostly determined by the composition of the other team and predictions I make on what they might do, and where I might be able to farm the most dmg.

i disagree. the people that know better... well... they know better. for the rest, a guide to how the map was designed that shows where to go, is only of value.

I'd be happy with solo training rooms.  We've been asking for those for YEARS.....

I already get a "where to go" map during game-play. Numerous times I've had arty pinging me and drawing on the mini-map that I should go face-hug a Tier 8 Heavy with my Hellcat. Oh, and that's about a minute before they TK me for not following their directions.

Hmm. This one is tricky. While I think that having these versions of the maps could be helpful to a newer player who doesn't know the "general" flow of a certain map, that would also be making the assumption that they were aware that they should be looking at the map to begin with and that they understand how the map can be used to better strategize- which, let's face it, is not usually the case. I remember thinking for the first several months of playing- what the heck do I need the map for? It just gets in the way. Now I rely on it heavily but also still get that occasional tunnel-vision and forget to consult with it until it is too late...

Anyway, even if we did assume that the folks who would benefit from it would actually use it,  I agree with ARCNA42 that it could have negative effects- it could essentially train them to be "bots" that always do the same thing every time- which isn't a great strategy because not all games do play out the same way and trying new things can make the game more challenging and interesting and helps to develop new strategies.

Granted, most battles involve certain tanks primarily going to certain places, but maybe that could be more of a training thing- maybe implementing this in the initial tutorials or even in the training rooms versus in the actual live battles? The training rooms already have the ability to look at any map, having this content there would be helpful if folks knew to look for it.

Another thought-  Cost benefit analysis- I am not sure that any perceived benefit from these particular tabs would outweigh the cost in terms of additional load on the game itself. For every new feature- there's the potential for loss of performance because your computer is now having to do yet another function. Even if it is tiny- that stuff adds up. In the training rooms, it wouldn't be a thing- you wouldn't be as worried about your fps and lag like you do in a live battle.

Aslains has minimap options, including HeatMaps if you want them. If I recall, you can set them as your primary minimap or under a key, alt or tab or something.

Yeah, but that mod has issues with other mods. And often will show out of date mini maps :P As well as thats a mod. Would like it to be a vanilla feature.
