Gotta say... even gimped by having my heavy crew in it, the Hype feels pretty good to drive now. I never had it during its 'glory days' (back when you'd often see 2-3 per side in tier 8 matches), so I don't really know how it compares, but it's a decent ride now in my estimation, and feels like a proper medium. I guess I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and roll a crew for T-34-1.

I do believe this tank is now worthy of its reputation.

But it is not what it used to be by a longshot!

The type was already strong, but now it's even better.   It'll still fall victim to 5/10 and same tier as "pref".

Was better when it saw 9s rarely and spent about 1/3 the time at each spot in +/-2 MM.

Once it sees tier 9 its game over, it gets ripped apart pretty easily. Even when facing certain tier 8's (252, Prog, Lorr, Skorp G, VK 100, etc) it still has a hard time.

252, Prog, Lorr, Skorp G, VK 100...all recently introduced power creep vehicles!

It feels way more mobile now. I wouldn't call it OP, but it's definitely better than it was. I'd rather play it than the T-34-3, T-44-100, or T-54 Mod. 1. (Makes more credits than they do, too.)

It was never bad. It just got powercreeped on by things that were even better.

This is the 3rd time it's been significantly buffed. It got a pretty good buff when the HD model was released, it got a pretty big buff when the Chinese tree was released and now it got buffed again.

I recently picked up the Type 59 last Christmas in the holiday loot boxes (I lucked out big time). From what I've gathered in the games I've played, there is an influx of tier 8 pref tanks now in the game, not just the Type 59. And with that influx, there are more tanks that don't totally outclass the Type in the matchmaker, which also boosts the buffs even more. So the odds of success in Type 59s got easier, for sure. But the same is the case with the Super Pershing, the T-34-3, the WZ-111, and so on. I wouldn't say that the Type Hype is unique. Rather, preferential premium tanks as a whole have made a resurgence. They now have better chances in their matches and more going for them, so expect the next big sales event to bring even more preferential premiums into the matchmaker.
