Hello WG Staff, 

 

I am wondering how the map rotation algorithm works.  

 

The reason I am wondering is because after 1.2 hit, I was looking forward to the new Empire map, I have seen dozens of Empire games on the WOT replays web site, and it looked like a great map, but after collecting data on the last 38 matches, I have not had the opportunity to be put into the new empire map, while playing the Obj 263 for 97% of my matches (37/38 matches).

 

If possible, can you please calibrate my expectations for how map rotation will work for post 1.2?

 

Some data I have for the last 38 matches (apologies up front for any misspelling) after 1.2 was downloaded, my maps have been (map & quantity);

 

Fjords - 3

Airfield - 2

Erlenberg - 2

Fisherman's Bay - 2

Highway - 2

Pilsen - 2

Serene Coast - 2

I don't know if this matters or not, but do you have assault battles enabled?  I ask because I have had the new map 6 times, and 5 of them were assault mode.  Maybe it has some kind of priority that way.  Or just randomness.  Who knows.

 

I expect the first priority of the map selection algorithm is to pick a map that none of the players in the battle had in their previous battle.  That seems to work well as I very very very rarely get the same map back to back.

 

Give it some time, you will get all the maps.

At least you have randomness. The preponderance of my games have been on Westfield, Paris and Abbey.

Rotation works like all WG features (just great).

Not a bad distribution.  Looks like most maps have at least one game with none having an inordinate number of games vs the others.   Beats the old "five maps endlessly thru the day" that it appeared to be in the past.  Question.  To get Paris and Himmelsdorf, did you load up an arty to cheat the system?

Yeah map rotation seems to have improved a bit lately, not sure of they adjusted something or it's just random but the way it was working for a while was silly

Most of the time I got on the new map was on assault mode, did you turn that option on?

Maps within the "rotation" are often weighted so do not expect an equal representation.  What modes you have turned on/off will impact the maps you see in any given session.  Obviously, there are less players to fill ques for Grand Battles, Encounter, and Assault modes so MM fills those first.  So if you want more Empire's border enable "Encounter mode"

I turned the assault mode off, I only had random battles on, I think I will turn those options back on and see what happens.

Agree, am happy there is a good distribution and not the same five maps over and over again. 

 

Didn't choose any arties for these, all but one match was in the Obj 263, the one other was in the Obj 430.

The few maps used in assault mode will increase in frequency. 

 

I have encounter and assault modes on, so I get maps used in those modes much more then others. 

 

Playing lower tiers should also increase the frequency of certain maps.

It use to be to drive players up tier simply out of boredom and fustration...don't know if that's what the methodology is now.

Map rotation in this game is currently broken, will never be fixed. Enjoy the same maps over and over again...

I do, actually.  Sometimes I think, "Oh no, I picked the wrong unit for this map," however I usually am not too fussed over any particular map, nor am I if I get it more regularly.  The more I see it, the more mentally ready I am for it.  Helps me focus on playing instead of wondering what tactic or strategy I might have to use for a new one.

 

More maps are ALWAYS better, however.

Umm, no I don't.  I MOSTLY play arty and that makes a difference HOW?  Some maps are notoriously "bad" for arty, aren't they?  Himmelsdorf, Pilsen, Minsk, Paris, Empire's Border, Ruinberg, Glacier, Fjords -- all those maps are harder for arty than most.  You don't hear me complain.  I just adjust my play to my arc and traverse, find a spot that other SPGs don't think to counter and, as often as not, DO help Sway the Outcome of the match.

 

So it really makes no difference what unit you play the most or if you play them all, as I do.  I don't know if you've read other posts of mine, but I have about 8fps on a wireless internet connected to a potato laptop made in 2010 that shares it 6G RAM with the OS and Video Chip.  I play on lowest settings and today, I've been playing mostly LTs.

 

I cannot reliably play the faster units with my ping, which is also widely variant.  I'm usually running 140ms -- 360ms and when it swings around like that, I cannot reliably time my shots or my movements.  If it's Stable, then I can deal.  SPGs are the most forgiving in this regard.

 

Thanks for the attempt to demean my statements with a completely meaningless statement, though.  I'll send you a free copy of the home version of WoT!
