I would say Picard by a slim margin.

But I would choose Spock over Riker any day.

Riker was a wanna-be Magnum PI.

Wesley Crusher and his mom just made me sad.

Whoopi Goldberg made me angry.

Picard and Worf - that's the pudding!

But nothing matched the Kirk-Spock-McCoy-red-shirt-guy dynamic.

That with a dash of Ensign Rand... oh yeah.

I've enjoyed a fair many Star Trek movies and some seasons of the show.  Some movies are trash and some eras of the seasons are laughably bad.  It's hit and miss, but mostly enjoyable for me.

Very hit and miss. Even as a big fan of it, I'll be the first to admit that it's not all just purely amazing. ToS was a classic (and paved the way for Star Wars. You're welcome SW fans!) but campy and hammed up. TNG was much better acting and technology, but a bit less action, more philosophical, and had some really weird and really boring episodes. Voyager was a well done story with a crew that took a while to get used to, but man The Doctor (Robert Picardo) was amazing! And finally, Deep Space Nine had amazing writing that felt like a continually evolving story with lots of nice breaks in between. I also still have to keep stumping for Garak. Easily has my favorite quote in the franchise too:

"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"

"My dear Doctor, they're all true."

"Even the lies?"

"Especially the lies."

Movies I'll be honest, haven't seen them yet. Latest stuff I've heard is pretty so-so, and Discovery.... Well, let's just put it this way. There's a petition for them to stop it, and they're being sued for stealing someone's fanfic/characters rather blatantly.

I'm actually a Film Production student, and I've been trying to make Star Trek my baby in a way, although not for film. Prefer television. As a matter of fact I'd been working on a script to try and pitch to CBS that continues the story and goes back to some of the better aspects, if anyone wouldn't mind spitballing back and forth with me at some point. Helps to have someone to bounce ideas with.

Best of luck with that, we need more Star Treks.

"Shut up Wesley!"

Kind of applies to Will Wheaton modern day too...

Honestly TNG, my favorites were Data and Worf. Really love the unique characters. And while Whoopi may be a bit crazy now, I still think she did a pretty good job as Guinan.

I love Star Trek, heck right now because work is so dead and there's nothing to do, Iam using this time to watch Star Trek (DS9 or TOS depending on the day)

My personal favorite of the TV shows is the original with DS9 is a very close second. Even though I consider DS9 to be the best Star Trek show. For the movies, its too hard to pick from Wrath of Khan, Voyage Home, and the Undiscovered Country. When it comes to the age old debate of Kirk vs Picard. I easily chose Kirk because his awesome, also I can't see Picard doing this...

Spoiler

I say a better question should be Kirk vs. Sisko because I can't pick between the two

No, someday l plan on watching TNG and DS9. l did see the pilot to TNG and iirc Q is in it.

Indeed he is, although not yet the point where he becomes a true favorite. Appears once a season after that point I believe, but man are the episodes good. Deja Q is a good one if you get the chance to watch it.

Thank you! I'm actually pretty positive in the concept being capable of working. It's just a matter of getting into a pitch meeting with a CBS executive, finishing the script and characters (which I still need names and ideas for some of them), and hoping I can catch them and convince them before they crash and burn. (they're failing hard with Discovery, so they're trying to do yet another series now with Picard again) So far though I'm pretty happy with what I've got, and the friends I've showed it to seem to love it.

Anyways, again, if anyone wants to help me out a bit I'd really appreciate it :)

(especially with naming characters. the best names I've come up with ever are Harry and Houdini for my two Dojo loaches in my 55 gallon fish tank. Outside of that, I suck lol)

Terrible acting.

I never believed she was on a ship in space, even a campy one.

Spoiled the suspension of disbelief every time.

YMMV

Just wanted to say, thanks everyone for all the conversation here! Been in a bit of a depressed state for a while now, and this has really lifted my mood!

Anyways, favorite episodes anyone? Mine are In the Pale Moonlight and just about any Q or Borg episode. (pretty sure I had a few others specifically I had in mind, but I forgot in the span of like 5 minutes)

Piccard all the way.

Kirk would chase any green skinned bikini clad alien, and then wax existential about what his purpose was. Piccard was by the book, straight laced, and solid. But when the poo hit the fan, the man would uncork the weapons and blaze away.

I do like Kirk, but he was too much of a cad.

Janeway was decent, Sisko was awesome on DS9.

Still Piccard was the consummate leader and senior officer.

  • Star Trek Discovery: The LGBYTQRSTUVWXYZ Tour?  Seemed like it to me when I saw them at Comic Con.  Beyond that I've only watched the first episode as I'm not paying for CBS All Access.
  • Kirk vs Picard?  Kirk all the way as he coolness to spare, as well as being a meme of sorts (do I have that right?).
  • I liked Voyager a bit, especially the opening sequence which was a bit silly but still cool looking.
  • As a Babylon 5 fan, I feel Deep Space 9 is an abomination because its a rip off IMO.  Plenty to debate in that though.  Sisko made for a cool captain but really I couldn't watch this show because of what I saw as a plagiarism issue.
  • While not a Star Trek fan, I am a fan of the newer films.  I think Chris Pine makes a great Kirk, Karl Urban's a real good McCoy, Simon Pegg is a good Scotty and I think Anton Yelchin made a Chekov an enjoyable watch.
