I think the thing that appeals to me is that you can do some wandering relatively safely with a few other tanks and easily catch loners to capitalize on.  Plus, there are just some spots that are godly for using the contours of the terrain to get shots on tanks that think they are safe by staying too far back out of the action.

I think there are some great comments here.  I like the expansiveness of the map. It actually exceeds view ranges which ALL maps should do.  Terrain is varied and if there are corridors...they are WIDE enough to not feel so much like one.  There is enough going on that it seems harder to get that "roll over them" kind of push that just ends a match (so often).

However, here's a few  comments that i really hope Wargaming takes to heart and LISTENS too:

  1. Single Tier matches are preferred over any 2-3 Tier match of any configuration.
  2. HUGE maps are better
  3. Tier VIII tanks are much more varied than almost any other Tier and (IMHO) are much MUCH more enjoyable than Tier X
  4. Last....When WG pulls back the TierVIII Grand Battles i will pretty much stop playing TierVIII (much like i no longer play X).  I MIGHT play some TierIX but for the most part until WG brings back Frontline or some version of the Grand Battles concept of single Tier VIII play.....i just won't be playing those tanks.  There is NO point to just getting beat up by Tier X over and over again in 3/5/7 or any other MM scheme that crosses X with VIII.

I for one loved it but was only able to get in one match so far , lol I work a lot. but yes its great to be in a tier 8 and not be pure cannon fodder for tier 10 which if your using the rev is about 90 per cent of all matchs. I really hope this stays or we get something like it anyways. one thing though as others have posted it would be nice to be able to select this mode instead of leaving it to a random chance at getting a grand battle match. thanks WG

My first response was abit over excited to say the least :).. probably because I'm one who rarely play the couple of tier 10's i have, 1 of which I havent played in over 2 months (Repair vs win vs loss vs draw ratio of credits less earned vs. more loss). But after a few days of getting some play time in, I figured I would give a more calm answer now lol

So this is my opinion of the pros and cons of Tier 8 Grand battle BETA (Keyword!) that I may extend the list even after the beta has been removed (Which I think should be extended beyond 1 week).

Pros of Tier 8 Grand battle

  1. Gives Players the opportunity and a reason to grind up to Tier 10 to experience Grand battles that they will have the option to join.
  2. Gives players who choose not to play Tier 10's (Repair vs win vs loss vs draw ratio of credits less earned vs. more loss) the option to enjoy Grand battles
  3. Larger Maps - a few reasons for this
    1. opportunity to be able to manauver around the map without being spotted within the first 20 seconds of Battle
    2. Space to manuaver around without being indirectly guided where you dont care to go.
    3. Room to fallback, recover and or reload without being overwhelmed and or cornered by enemy tanks (unless your just a YOLO'ist)
    4. Which all of the above is compared to our current Random MMs and especially the micro maps (Ensk, Himmelsdorf, Abbey)
  4. The more Tier 8's in this mode in theory i would hope would improve the chance of 10's being pulled into more Grand battles and or +1/-1 Tier 9 / 10 Battles?
  5. higher chances to complete the high count Campaign secondary fullfillments easier (More tanks to spot, damage, block shots, SPG splash, etc)
  6. Less 8's being pulled into +2/-2 (3,5,7) MMs
  7. Possibly increase the +1/-1 of Tier 6 / 7 MMs, and below (less 8's equal less 6's having to face Tier 8s.. Not as harsh as the 8-10 but still to be considered)
  8. Probably more, but these just by quick thoughts

Cons of Tier 8 Grand Battles

  1. Tier 10 players who are very familiar with Grand battles have an significant advantage over players who are new to GB's (basically Higher Tier seal clubbing of more experienced Tier 10 players) temporarily until players become more familiar with this mode that play TIer 8's

Less Tier 8's in que for Random MM (Grand battle mode Enabled, if made perm which should be the option) might result in the following

  1. Tier 9 players would probably see less Tier 7 - 9 battles and have less Top of the list time on Random MM's (otherwise may become longer wait times?)
  2. Basically Tier 9s would see more +1 / -1Tier 10 Battles as result?
  3. Tier 9's probably have less opportunities to fullfill missions as a result of less Tier 8 tanks in 8-10 MM's that could be considered easier prey to damage, destroy, block shots, etc
  4. There are prob more, but agian first quick thoughts...

So these are only some of my personal thoughts on the Grand Battle Option at Tier 8

I honestly think that this would be an excellent edition to the game considering that there are a larger amount of Tier 8s that are available to game then any other Tier (Tier 8 Premium tank sells ofc as a direct result of this).

Much like Frontline, which was only for Tier 8's that was by far the best mode ever for WoT, this may not be the same, but in retrospect it is IMO a fun option to have instead of being locked into smaller maps compared to Grand Battles.

At higher Tier's, tanks steadily gain better equip, upgrades, higher perked crews (If transfering up from Previous Tanks), etc.. which ='s larger radius of RADAR, better Crews, etc.. So when you tank extends outward with all these skills, maps need more space to have that cushion of time to place themselves, manuaver, etc in larger maps.. which Grand Battles at Tier 10 get this..

Not in smaller maps. So to have this Mode at Tier 8, we can stretch our barrels some and have that same space to get in place and room to breath for more then 10-20 seconds on both sides of the teams instead of move, within 10 seconds or less (SPOTTED at *.*!)..

So I say Keep it.

I like it and I would like to see it stay in the game and add tier 6.

It would be awfully nice to choose to enter a grand battle rather than have it entirely up to chance.   Just sayin'

Really... No one thought of this option?  CHOICE

I have Grand Battle turned off. Getting a team to cooperate is difficult enough with 15 members. I find no benefit in being a part of a larger team. Also grand battles don't help when working on missions that require specific parameter ranking (top 10 experience, Top 5 damage) in the battle results.

If you do top damage and kills you will easily get those types of missions done.

Just sayin.

IIRC, yes, until the 20th of this month.

I had a few over the weekend. Not enough to learn the maps though. Waste of time.

Only played in 2 or 3. Didn't really care for them honestly.

I had a lot of fun playing grand battles this week! I enjoyed the larger maps/ more diverse maps! I'm really going to miss them... Cant wait till you bring them back! (Or of course bring back frontline!)

It's nice to have a mode where I can fight only my own tier, whatever mode it might be. That said, I just suffered through 1 hour of 100% exp booster on a t69 with 150 penetration and didn't get a single grand battle. It needs to be a separate queue. I'm going back to avoiding my tier 8 tanks.

He said it, I'll quote it:  It needs to be a separate queue

everyone knows it, and you should know it too by now

I loved it. It made tier 8 actually playable again. Artillery is still unfair and broken, however.

I love the grand battles and think you should implement them for every tier. Also, give an option to only play grand battles.

Tier 8 Grand battles made tier 8 tolerable.... Tired of being bottom tier every game. I cant tell you the last time I seen a tier 6 while driving a tier 8.

IMO Tier 8 grand battles should be a permanent feature in WoT.

Queued many times for it.  Never saw them.  Same as tier 10.  I haven't seen a Tier 10 GB match in many months.  It is a unique mode that I would love to have a chance to play, but it never pops up.
