Today we're adding another wheeled vehicle closed testing: The Panhard EBR 90, a Tier IX vehicle.

The EBR 90 shares many similarities with its Tier VIII counterpart, but boasts a more powerful gun, weighing in at 90mm.

 

It shares all the mechanics characteristic of wheeled vehicles, as well as the same playstyle: Active reconnaissance scouting. Instead of classic passive spotting, the EBR 90 relies on agility and speed to spot and flank targets.

 

Keeping in mind that this is the first iteration of testing, and that these stats are likely to change following our initial testing period.

90mm is a measurement of diameter, not mass.

Weight is a measure of force, not mass.  A 90mm gun generates more force than a smaller caliber gun all other factors being the same.  Besides, it is just a figure of speech.

Can I weigh in with my opinion ? I think it's a figure of speech and also a measure.

So much so that they put it in the name so as to set realistic expectations.  Now no one should expect to drive this while panning all over the place

Yknow, I actually thought about that when I was writing the post. I think something along the lines of introducing a boxer was going through my mind and "sizing in at" just didn't sound right to me.

'High-risk, low-reward' is not a good goal to shoot for.

 

Similar situation as the other wheeled tanks we've seen thus far- the extremely poor view range makes me skeptical that we'll see much active scouting so much as we'll see either fruitless suicide rushes or TD-like sniping. The current tracked active scouts have tended to have at least enough view range so that with the right loadouts they can have enough to actually reach the 445m spotting limit. But with base values like 330m or 350m that's highly unlikely. So the remaining options are to go for passive gear, or not to bother at all. 

 

Of course the issue may be that if wheeled lights have comparable view range values as normal light tanks, they may render them obsolete. But for one that in itself is debatable, secondly lights' role is threatened by mediums much more so, and thirdly the normal lights could have their role shifted in response. The simple answer is to buff view range on both passive and active scouts. The alternative is to set aside the scouting role altogether and leave the view range low, but instead buff the living hell out of the DPM to create a fast skirmisher.

Is the sandbox server up? I've been trying to get on for the past week and it's always said that its down. I really want to try out these new tanks!

Unfortunately the sandbox server has been down for quite some time. I believe the last iteration of sandbox was to run the Battle Royale mode for April Fools'

We are starting off testing in a closed environment because they are introducing a lot of new mechanics and we want to make sure we get a lot of closed testing in before releasing them into the wild. Not even us WG employees have gotten a chance to play the wheeled vehicles yet

As soon as I get a chance I will be happy to share my impressions with anyone who is curious.
