With what you have available, you have some good choices, especially if you plan on moving up to the Tier 9 or 10 past them.   Without knowing your playstyle preferences, all I can do is guess and give opinion.   I will list them in order below of what I would pick (using my preferences) with reasoning.

1.  T28 Prototype - Hefty TD that plays quite well as a TD or as a Heavy.  The T30 after it is awesome and continues this hybrid play, with the T110E4 at tier 10 being not as well liked as the T30, but still being a hybrid TD/Heavy.

2.  AMX 50-100 - Decently mobile heavy that plays more like a medium tank.  If you haven't played Autoloaders before, this will be a rough introduction, but you will get used to it.  Leads to a pair of great Autoloaders at Tier 9 and 10.

3. Centurion 1 - Not the easiest grind, but a great ridge-warrior when fully upgraded.  The Tier 9 and 10's past this are more of the same.

4. Panther II - Decent medium that is quite hefty.  Leads into the E-50 and E-50 M, both of which are critically acclaimed and well loved for being the best ramming tanks in the game.

5. KV-4 - Ugh, a rough grind.  Fully upgraded with its 107mm, it turns into an OK sniper.  Armor is thick, but very flat, which makes it easier to go through.  ST-I after it is well loved.  IS-4 is very poor, however, WG at WGFest stated they are buffing the IS-4, so who knows what it will be like by the time you get there.

6. AMX 65t - One of the worst tanks in the game.  Terrible Mobility.  Terrible Armor.  Terrible gun handling.  Only the turret works on this, and even then, only in a handful of situations.   All this tank needs is either an armor buff to make up for the slowness, or a mobility buff to make up for lack of armor.  Either will take it from terrible to ok.  The Tier 9 and 10 past it are worth the grind, as both are incredibly tough brawling heavies.

I got the AMX 50-100. Awesome tank.  I think in going with what you said i'll pick the T28 Proto next. Thanks!

sorry, but tier 7 really is not the break even point...

before i get my first tier 8 prem, my tier 7 t20 and leo was my favorite tanks and my main credit maker tanks. I also used them both to grind the Caern AX marathon till half way of stage 8
my average win rate was 50/51% and I did less dmg than my health back than, it is not until i had close to 400 games in both tanks then my damage per game starting to exceed my health.

I'd like to see crews be able to move freely to the elite tanks they previously reached 100% in training on prior to moving up the same tech line without having a required retraining, as they really should not have forgotten how to operate those earlier tanks.

I was not aware of this problem, my crews have all kept 100% with tanks they earned it on.

Edit* Nevermind, just saw your battle count.

If you get 100% with a crew on a tank, they will always have 100%

A crew can have 100% training on only 1 tank.  You can freely move that crew to a premium tank of the same nation/class without requiring retraining (half the purpose of a premium tank).  If you move that crew from one tank in the tech tree to another and retrain them, then they no longer are trained for the prior tank, and if placed in that prior tank, will be at 80% effectiveness if same class, and MUCH worse if different class.

Or you could just do like others and check out Ebay. I won't go into detail , but I know there are items related to world of tanks on eBay.

Thanks for clarifying...my original point was that their training on the prior tank should be retained, not forgotten as it is in the current system.  That way, you can have one crew that masters a "line" in the tech tree, assuming that line is all the same class of tank, and not feel like you have to sell the old tanks just because they don't have a crew that will work in them now unless you keep paying gold to move the crew back and forth.  I loved playing the M4 Sherman, but that crew moved up to the Jumbo Sherman, and if I really wanted to keep the M4, I'd have to retrain a whole new crew just for that tank, but alas, that is just too much of a grind for now.  WG makes this game very much a linear progression and very punishing to do it any other way in terms of time and money.

The title of this thread is funny. Given today's culture, I guess it is the norm to just buy a tier 8 tank and hit battle after you finish the the introduction of WOT. Is this the normal thing to do now? I know the kids these days are born acclimated to hyper sensory overload, almost as if it makes them bored or if they are taking nap. For me, a forty something year old, there is just so much stuff for to figure out in WOT. To be 10 years old again, my goodness.

I believe you may be misunderstanding the point of this thread.

It's about wisely choosing a line of tanks that will take you eventually to your first TECH TREE tier 8.

The decision to go up a specific line for a specific tier 8 TECH TREE tank could be made on your first day of playing or any time thereafter.

Having this guide available will undoubtedly save many players many mistakes in choosing tank lines.
