Howdy Tankers,

I was looking through some Russian Twitch streamers today when I came across this one who was using a mod that I've never seen before.  In the Mini-Map, you can see where the enemy tanks are pointing with their field of view shown in green:

It looks kind of like headlights but it is basically showing where the enemy is pointing their barrels.  Is this a legal mod for World of Tanks?  I wouldn't think so, but then again, I wouldn't think Hit Skins are legal either but I'm told they are.

Just curious.   Thanks!

this mod is legal, I had the same thoughts when I spotted this a while back, but it's available for download on wgmods. I also remember seeing a mention of it by a wg employee in regards to it's legality (the fact that it was legal).

Go back to your bridge you crawled out from.

OP, I personally don't think this mod should be legal, Gravtech has made me curious.  I'll be checking out the WG mod portal...

It used to be illegal prior to the Fair Play Policy. Then, despite the Fair Play Policy specifically pointing out to prohibiting mods which give you information that you can't obtain through your immediate surroundings (Such as where enemy tanks are pointing their turrets), for some reason it became approved for use in mod packs.

Ever since then, modpacks such as Solo's and Aslain's have been including this mod in them, and they've been approved by WG to do so.

Personally I believe that this mod should have remained illegal, and I'm really not sure why it became legal in the first place, but for the time being, it is a legal mod.

It should be illegal as it shows you which way turrets that are behind solid cover are facing. But I don't believe it is illegal as Gravtech said it's on the modportal page (for what that's worth).

Granted, you could argue that someone has to be spotting the target and therefore which way the turret is facing is known by someone. Just not necessarily you. You could further argue that since someone else is spotting the target for you, and you only know about the target because of radio messages, that this is just something that gets automatically relayed through the radio, just like the position of a tank that you cannot spot for yourself. To me, though this is a stretch. But I could see it as an argument.

It's questionable put it's legal. You can download it from the official WOT mod page.

There are two versions of this mod. One is legal, on is not. Its only legal if it shows turrets in render range only. Otherwise its illegal.

it is legal as it shows the 'lit' up directions, if it was showing the turret directions when the enemy wasn't lig then it woul dbe illegal

Ban all mods.  Give us a vanilla client with no chance of changing anything.

Russians have a different approach to cheating. Just look at the Olympics.

BTW have you seen QuickyBaby's new video, it's a bombshell

Any man who would deny another man’s right to slap big ol’ anime tiddies on the front of his O-Ni is no man at all.

This mod showed render range tanks only, but for the render of every tank on your team.  It was funny to me, because the streamer flanked at the blimp and you could see all of the red tanks turrets turn around and face her.  Like giant spotlights.

I don't ever want to cheat in WoT, but if there are legal mods out there that people can use, I'm not sure how I feel about installing this one.  I mean if I poke a corner real quick and can see where the enemy tanks are pointing their barrels without seeing for myself, I could definitely use that to my advantage.  If I did install this, I might feel "dirty" about it.

I shall debate this issue in my head until after 1.3 comes out and Aslain updates his modpack

It is but it shouldn't be. He's not cheating.

It is allowed through the mod portal.  It only applies to spotted tanks but still I agree with you.

Those who want to ban all mods will only get my support when WG makes in game features work correctly.
