Had a battle on Overlord where someone on our team said "only noobs go beach", right after countdown.  NOBODY went beach.

The red team sent 3 tanks to the beach and we had nobody to stop them.  The red tanks came up our backsides and killed our arty and TDs and then flanked everybody else....winning the game for them.

While I agree 100% that having many tanks go beach is a waste, the beach still needs to be covered.....1-3 tanks can usually do it.  If I see nobody going to beach, I will head that way to cover it.

People need to look at their mini-map closely on this map.  If you see 2-3 tanks already going beach, DON'T GO!!!  If you see nobody going beach, then you might think of covering it yourself.....or at least expect red tanks to be coming up from the beach.

I have always called the Overlord map by its alternate name, "Idiots Go To The Beach".

They could do a short film of this “Idiots day at the Beach” and put it to some stock Walt Disney “happy critters” sound track. You know the stuff where the raccoon, octopus and penguin get into all sort of hoots and hyjinx traveling cross county.

So basically, with a three tank advantage up top your team couldn't win.  From the sound of it your team would have lost no matter what they did.  This is what happens when people are too timid.  They allow a bad strategy to work.   It's no different than when a lemming train is held up by inferior forces.

We were actually doing fairly well on top at first.  I think we had a 1 or 2 tank advantage in losses.  However, the red tanks from the beach push fairly quickly once they realized there were no green tanks on the beach and things went bad fairly quickly once the arty and TDs were killed.

Do you know about the extended minimap features?

View PostFrozenKemp, on Jan 11 2019 - 11:37, said:

Well, at very least, you don't have the max sighting and draw distance circles on your minimap, which are pretty handy.

BUT I admit this is beside the point, the point here is the 7 idiots on the beach.

ok i was wrong i do have them set to alt, i also have the max view range and spotting range turned on, only one off is the draw distance

Wait a second.  You dont have to "go beach" to cover beach.  Any advance can be spotted from the cliffs, and they have to come up one of two funnels.  Nobody is saying you dont have to keep an eye on the back door.  You just dont need to go run around the back yard to do it.

exactly it can be watched up top and defended up there.

True....if someone IS watching from the cliffs.  Many times I have seen that if nobody is on the beach, the TDs do not bother watching it either as they have no spotters.....and if a red tank(s) is spotted coming up from the beach will anybody on the team flex.

Whether it is watched by a tank on the beach or from the cliffs, I feel it does need to be covered.

I can't even imagine what reason you would have to not want your circles and tank names on the map at all time. Critical information the game gives you for free.

because as far as tank names its a cluster mess and i dont need to see them on the map, i can see what tank is what by looking at the tanks in front of me, and whatever tanks are not in front of me are on the other side which i wont have to deal with till later by then i know whats left by who is dead and who is not

Playing in my IS4 on the test server, all T10 match.  (I'm there more now) I punched a hole killing two tanks in the sands.  So I'm  right along  as a heavy tank should...  and god damn it  6 tanks at the 6 minute mark suddenly decided that  HEY  YA... YUR DONIN GUD HUR HUR  HUR... WE BE FOLLOWING YOU...

Yea we lost.

The map setup is a bad idea. They should move it further inland and call it Bocage.

Better yet -- keep the beach -- but extend the map Eastward by 200M and add more to it!

AND

Let us shoot at that paratrooper plane -- the AA can NEVER seem to hit it!

I was on a team that lost to a 4 tank beach push from the reds.  I'm much more upset that those guys will think the beach is a good play than our losing.

Beach is dumb, but dumb dumb still go there and then wonder why they've lost when the 3 enemy top tiers rolled down the lanes for map control.   "it must be luck or rigged" said the baddie who died horribly on beach.

Pray, where else can heavy tanks play and not get sniped by invis TDs or flanked by annoying mediums?

Where else can huge TDs without turrets go?

I have little idea how to play Overlord with these two vehicle classes (which happen to be my main classes), beach seems the best bet. And you have to go down because a) the enemy usually comes down, and b) to avoid flanking fire from the middle of the map.

The moment I know I'm screwed on Overlord is when I see I got Overlord on the map loading screen. **** that map.
