So can anyone help me find a GOOD tutorial on the T54E1? I do OK in most tanks (save for some heavies, if it wasn't for them my stats would be a couple points higher) But this one is killing me (quite literally.) Suggestions are welcome as are GOOD trolls....

Run out in the open. Attack a Type 5 heavy by standing still and firing all your rounds at its front. Die. Rage against the team. Rinse. Repeat.

I forgot the step where you posts a salty rant in the forums. Thank you Project100 for helping me with this detailed tutorial.

Get your daily doubles until the last day of the on-track and then free exp the rest so you can buy the T57 on discount. That's the plan I'm currently following.

Ya know... I'm not sure how but I seem to actually be doing alright in that tank. I'd help you out but I am not even sure what I am doing that is right. Getting lucky I guess.

Tried that. I got nuked by a T92 as soon as I stopped to empty my clip. That is quite literally my luck in this tank...I can't even die with some semblance of dignity...:amazed:

I just ran out of cover was sniped by a fv4005 while running to at full speed. IT was an awesome shot that killed my 54 instantly. (Yes, of course I swore at him. But after the game I did complement him and his perfectly aimed fatal shot.)

I enjoyed the T69 because of its speed, the T54E1 was the bane of my play style. Yeah it had more armor, but only on the hull, so the only thing the armor does is weigh it down.

I ran Vents, GLD and Optics, mostly APCR for my load out, with 2, maybe 3 drums of AP, the penetration is only one of many flaws with this tank.

This tank will grind down all profits to make minor gain, the chance of fire was always low so i ran food. One major issue is the accuracy and gun handling, you must let it fully aim in before firing, and pray to Uncle Sam that it hits.

It took me a year to finish the T54E1 grind, it would cause me to rage so much i wouldn't bother with the tank unless it was a x3+ event going on. My stats in it are good (some how) but that does not mean i enjoyed it at all.

I have to say, much though I very much enjoyed playing T54E1, I can't say I was particularly successful with it. Like Raptor above, I pretty much had to use premium ammo to get anywhere. Which is odd, as most American vehicles I do well in, and I can't really point at anything about this tank and say "It doesn't work for me because...."

Why would you stop to dump you clip?

I guess it is a combination of smaller things. Its large size, no armour, not very mobile and its gun handling is average for the penetration it has.

I do like the T54E1 as well when I went through it the first time but it should never be expected to do anything special. Not so sure how well it performs in WoT today then when it was first introduced.

This is my potato advice. Ignore, praise, critique it however you like:

Equipment- Vertical Stabilizer, Vents, Binocs/Optics

1st Crew Skills- 6th Sense, Snap Shot, Smooth Ride/Off Road Driving, Safe Stowage

2nd Crew Skills- Situational Awareness, Camouflage, Camouflage, Camouflage

Like it's predecessor, the T54E1 has 2 advantages; an ability to clip out most full HP lower tier tanks and wounded higher tier tanks, and an excellent view range when paired with binocs or optics. Otherwise it offers only nominally better mobility than heavies and nominally better gun handling than derp cannons.

Ideally you should be an invisible presence (for the present benefit of intimidation and the future benefit of full-mostly full HP) for the start of the game, supporting the other mediums that are either supporting the heavies or preventing the opposition from flanking. From the middle towards the end of the game you should really start paying attention to the map and focus on clipping out wounded tanks.

Alternatively if you're not comfortable wolf packing with the other mediums from the rear, you can passive scout for your TDs and then focus on clipping out low HP tanks towards the middle to end of the match.

Because the gun handling is so poor firing on the move is nearly unthinkable in this thing...

I full load out premium ammo and skip the standard AP in this. I almost never do that because in most tanks, prem. ammo is only wasted used on lower tiers and lights, arty and many TD's. It needs a bit of a buff. Some mobility, a little gun handling and maybe 10 more pen. for the standard AP rounds. A few "little" adjustments could do a lot of good without making it OP and having unicum squads out killing the game in it...

Never stop in the open to empty a clip.

Always be ready to back up, no matter what is left in your clip.

Never trade damage for emptying a clip.

Wait for your shot, be aimed fully, track him, track him again, put a third in his tracks (for those that run dual repair) then put one anywhere.

I ran 50/50 ap/gold as I found I could reliably pen most tier 8s and lower with ap. I loved my t54E1, and at one point was never going to upgrade to the t57. I have the t57 now due to having creds from xmas and it being on track and dear god. I love that thing.

50 battles into my T54E1 at 58%. I'm an average player & I accept that. I run the tank in top form (there are plenty of times I miss the HE of the stock gun), except for top engine. 25 K for 10 HP? That's 2,500 XP per Horsepower. Doesn't seem worth it to me. :sceptic: Maybe if I one day decide to go the other US Heavy branch.
Ammo: 7 clips (28 rounds) AP, with 2 clips (8 rounds APCR). Personal preference to stay away from Gold Rounds.
Equipment: Vents, Vert Stab, & Optics. I was taught, "when it comes to equipment on any Medium tank. If it can mount vents, mount vents, if it can mount vert stab, mount vert stab. GLD is overrated because it only works when you sit still. Unless the tank is so blind they won't help, mount optics."
Crew skills: 6th sense, Deadeye, Off Road Driving, Safe Stowage
Situational Awareness, Snap Shot, Smooth Ride, Camo <- once these reach 100% I will drop for BIA & retrain.
Tactics wise it is similar to other squishy Medium auto loaders (Skoda T25, Chi-Ri, Lorr 40t, etc.). You want vision & distance. The gun handling is ÕK. You follow teammates a grid square or 2 behind them, good support range. Not back with the TDs & arty, but not front lines either. You need to operate either well out of the field, out on a flank, or lurk with a couple of big boys. Never go it alone. Use your 30+ second reload time to analyze the mini map. You are slow, but you can flex. Plan your moves on solid cover, not concealment. Going from rock to building to rock, etc. Bushes are not your friend, but can be used to conceal the line of travel to more solid cover.
If you end up alone. Stay back. Keep enemies within draw circle & try to keep them at the edges of your view range. You can bully enemies that are alone, but getting close generally means death from the ones you cannot see.
