You usually start from a Tier 1 tank and grind up the line, earning bonuses to help you reach the next tier faster.

The idea behind it is that you will go up the line, one tier at a time, until you get the top tank. Or, if you've already started the line, pick up where you left off.

You don't have to do it that way thought. You can pick one tank in the line up and play only that tank, In one On Track, I had two tanks with good crews, so I played two tanks.

Either way, you will get the benefits and rewards when you complete the missions.

most of on track missions are all based on xp - 250,000 base xp will get you all bonuses for that line / on track , which honestly is like 25% of the xp you need for the entire line, as an average a tech tree line will consist of 700k xp - from tier 1 to 10 not including all xp for each tank for all modules

They are just there to encourage you to play and grind that particular line. If you have little interest in power grinding the line for 2 weeks you can take it as tanks of discount and an exp boost up to tier 7. Note this is really the only time tier 10s go on sale.

that line is not a newer player friendly line, the higher tiers are high skill cap tanks

On-track can be difficult to new players, including myself. The most tier I finished is tier 8 for on-track events. I get bad luck during on track events, regardless with boosters activated or not, multiple loses that I just log off.

thanks guys for explaining. So if I have enough experience from lets say playing tier 8 premium tank and can research up the tech tree line it will cost me less? or do I have to have a tank from that tech tree line to get the bonuses.

On track mission is basically grinding the tanks on that tech line.  The only real benefit is that each tank on the line is half price.  You also get a bit more experience when doing it.  Unfortunately, you need that experience to retrain your crew every time you transfer them to a tank of the higher tier - as usual.  So unless you really want a tank on that line, I would not bother.
