give this tank 250 more HP and 2 seconts shorter reload and it can stand prety damn well for tier IX..

in my opinion it is OP for tier VIII..

i won it in my loot boxes in last holiday ops and i just got to play a few battles with it today..

thats my first impression..

plus it appears to make a s.itload of credits..

i am suddenly very happy to have this thing in my garage..

especially now that frontlines coming..

I got one too from the boxes. What does it look to average making credit wise? (w/ or w/o premium/boosters?)

Did you get the IS-3A? Buff the penetration and it also could be a very competitive tier 9 heavy, despite the IS-3 hull.

It does feel a lot like a Tier 9 heavy tank. As you said, a bit more HP and a faster reload, and it would be a substitute for the Obj. 257 in the tech tree. I have no idea why WG gave it such good armor with a high alpha gun. Something like the 50TP is both more comfortable to play and more balanced for the game. People actually have a chance against the 50TP if they're lower Tier, and 50TP isn't so RNG-dependent as the Defender is.

Yeah, its widely considered pretty powerful borderline OP at tier 8.  It's one of the arguably pay2win tanks in the game.  Load up a bunch of defenders with a few progettos and go run tier 8 stronks.

It's a premium tier 8 heavy tank with decent standard ammo penetration and 440 alpha, so pretty good. People will tell you things like the Lowe and T34 are better for earning credits, but you'll be doing more damage, killing more tanks and winning more games with the Defender.

i just played 5-6 battles in the row, won all of them but one.. with +50% credit booster..

having done 1200-2500 dmg per battle, it averaged 80.000 to 120.000 credits per battle..

in fact it does.. i dont like anything below tier IX and i only play tier VIII for credits.. without being happy while doing so..

this is the first tier VIII tank that i really like.. exactly because it "feels" so much like tier IX..

edit: to be honest i liked it much more than i like my 257..

It is ridiculous the amount of times I've bounced off a Defender with my 60TP. I seem to bounce off of them more often than I bounce off of IS-7s.

Ya will likely see a bunch of these along with IS-3As with Skorpions. Strv S1s and SU-130PMs sniping from the rear when FL opens. Progetto's was the choice for mediums the 1st time around. Credits galore. Looking forward to it!

to be honest, i dont like my 60TP so far.. havent play a lot with it but well, you know.. the first impressions..

i dont like its gun at all.. poor penetration, very long aiming time and ridiculessly inacurate for my taste..

Thing is, pre-release, the object 252 armour was 90 for the glacis, 120 lower plate. With that, the lower plate becomes a standard weakness one may expect in tier 8, and the 90mm glacis doesn't matter anyway because of autobounce angle. The important weakness, the side armour joint beneath the spaced armour strip, was only 30mm so people could over-match it with many tier 8 guns avaialble, but they increased it to 45mm. For some odd reason, they last minute buffed the tank, to the level it is now, 130 glacis, 140mm lower, and 45 in the sides.  Probably because Skorpion, Liberte/  Patriot were so successful as releases, they felt the needed to make defender great too. A little too great, if you ask me.

What you have basically, is a slower lS7 hull, an lS6 turret, with an lS3 gun that trades some gun handling for 50 pts extra damage.

The defender doesn't seem so hot bottom tier as tier 10 and many tier 9 will more or less butter you good unless you get a good side scrape on but yeah when its top tier vs a bunch of cannon fodder tier 6 and 7? Definitely op and certainly holds its own in an all tier 8 or mixed tier 9 match.

i just had a "crash" test with a friend.. in a training room he was shooting at me with a obj. 907.. with a gun of 264mm of penetration..

put this thing hull down and nothing can pen it unless load premium ammo and aim its few weak spots..

Oh I'm not denying it can be strong when bottom tier but you have to work for it and pressing the skill key will still eat it up vs most higher tiers.

yes, but while playing bottom tier to lose to a higher tier tank is expected more or less.. unless you are a master and you meet a high tier dork..

in an all VIIIs situation anyhow, it just "shine's" out of the crowd..

Facing tier nine and ten isn't part of the balance. EVERY tank struggles in these situations, except maybe tank destroyers and artillery.

But out of all of them, Defender does it the best. lt still has an lS7 hull to protect it. The glacis is still autobounce to 330mm HEAT. lt also trades for 440 damage, which other heavies do not commonly do tier eight. Nothing is hot bottom tier, but a defender still can hold its own bottom tier, and at least frustrate enemies.
