Ha
Anyways it's almost definitely the quality of the panel. The Retina display beats most laptops, and Acer is no exception.
Frugal people will usually splurge on one big purchase. Then wallet will be closed for a very long time. At least that is true for me. But I use stingy not frugal.
You also bought a JT 8.8 expecting to like it. It looks to me like you don't do nearly enough research before you buy things. If you were frugal you wouldn't buy a macbook pro in the first place. When you buy a macbook pro you're not going cheap, you're overpaying for a PC alternative with top quality 2D graphics.
If you want top quality color representation in a laptop, you have to demand it and pay for it.
For the CA $800ish you mentioned I don't think you can find anything unless you find a used laptop. But I think you fell for the cheap laptop trap, companies really put crappy hardware in budget laptops, so much so I'd recommend not buying them at all to anyone that asks.
Things to keep in mind, always look for reviews of laptops before buying.
See if you can figure out the panel type for the screen, Ips panels tend to have better color then TN panels.
I'd recommend only looking for a computer with a Nvidia 1060 or 2060 or greater video card if you want dedicated graphics. Not sure on the benchmarks for the mobile AMD cards you'd need to google it.
