This topic should be revived,

ST: TNG IS THE BEST

I just went back through my old thread and saw this, so I figured why not just make a brand new thread full of brand new stuff revolving around Trek. Heck, I'll even add an official "best captain" poll for everyone here ;)

By the way, Sisko is best captain and DS9 is the best series overall, change my mind. Apollo is clearly wrong thinking TNG is the best

I'll also add, I've been writing my own pilot episode script as a continuation of the series and intend on trying to get a general shoot of it done at some point to test my skills, so who knows, maybe there will be a 7th Captain on that list upcoming :P

Still wish I could do proper concept art for it, but I'm a terrible artist.

You should care about Discovery, because it's awesome in its own way.

Picard was unquestionably the best Captain, and I can't wait to see the new Picard show later this year!

Wow!  I have this same manual buried in a box of books I've not read in ages.  And I'm not even a fan, though I enjoyed the first reboot movie a lot.  And I voted for Kirk because he's iconic!

One of the shop assistants some weeks back was talking with me about it and said it started off quite rough but got a bit better over time. Overall just feels a bit too politically-correct for my tastes, and doesn't pay mind to certain canon, although the theory is that it's a different timeline/universe that it all takes place in, just like the JJ Abrams films, which helps with that a bit.

The actor who plays Captain Pike on Discovery also played the lead Character on the Series "Hell on Wheels"

Hell on Wheels was a great series and you should check it out sometime.

No, it is canon and takes place in the same universe that all the other series have taken place in, about 10 years before TOS.  Nothing to do with JJ Abrams' timeline.  There have been some oddities that might seem as though they don't fit, but they've either been explained already, or are promised to be explained later in the show.

Wasn't saying Abrams' timeline specifically, just a different one overall. I do hope they can come up with some good explanations though that don't sound ridiculous. Iirc they featured holographic technology like used in DS9, which was considered new and experimental at the time as it was being installed on the Defiant, which has personally been one of my biggest irks despite how small of a thing that may seem to be.

Obviously poll is biased because it doesn't have Captain Mercer. I don't care that the Orville isn't *actually* Star Trek.

In all seriousness though, probably DS9 and Sisko for me. Maybe its because it was the around my time period, but DS9 and Voyager were what I took a liking to. Although, despite the faults of the series, I actually don't mind Pike as Discovery's captain.

I think its squeezed in amongst my D&D box, original Alien and Star Wars movie novels and other stuff.

I remember seeing a blueprint in the manual for a Dreadnought class ship and wondered why didn't one of those ships appear in the original series rather than the dumpy ole Enterprise all the time.  This is why I was excited to see the bad-*ss USS Vengeance appear in Star Trek: Into Darkness.

I would say Majel Barrett, except she obviously didn't participate directly in DIS.  Did they even use her voice?

Not since I saw that "kneeling" photo of the cast. Nope. Never. Hope it gets cancelled.

Oh yeah, because supporting minorities is such a terrible thing.  And are you forgetting what this topic is about?  Star Trek has always been about tolerance and equality.  You're in the wrong place.

Poor oppressed NFL player making more money than the vast majority of people.

Should I also note how well that strategy is working out for them, their poor ratings, and the lawsuits against them right now?

I understand what Trek is about, but when it becomes over-focused on being politically correct rather than good writing and storytelling, they just become another modern and annoying show. It also caters to a tiny community rather than a much larger fanbase, and potential fanbase of Sci-fi fans that aren't familiar with Trek.
