Can someone explain to this clueless scrub how I can sit in an LTP and at short range, shoot an AMX 38 in the turret, track, inside track, front glacis from below, and score absolutely NO penetrations and NO damage to either HP or modules??? Both these tanks are Tier 3.

The AMX38 is rather robust for what it is and the things it sees.  Touch its butt, the triangle tank isn't very mobile.

AMX38 Hull has 60 armor

I have no clue about tier 3 but I can say that the LTP is a beast.  I would offer to jump into a training room and let you shoot me to help find where to fire, but again...I have no clue about tier 3 and don't own the AMX.

My best advice would be to start another thread politely asking if anyone out there has one of those tanks and wouldn't mind spending 10min with you in a training room to help out.  You'd be surprised how many people would take you up on that.

11k battles and can't figure out why gun won't pen armor.

However much you paid for that account, you paid too much.  :O

I'll leave this here for now and actually explain in detail why your 51mm of pen in the LTP can't pen the AMX 38's base 60mm of frontal armor or 40mm of spaced side armor later, when my booster runs out :)

I suggest quit auto aiming and try to aim for the weak spots.

Check the website tanks.gg it can show you the armor profile of the tank you were shooting at vs the gun you were using.

https://tanks.gg/tank/amx-38/model?cs=ltp&vm=live

Learning the weak spots of all the tanks in the game can go a huge way to helping you destroy the other team.

Being "same tier" has absolutely nothing to do with it

Very surprised you don't already know this kind of stuff with 11k battles - but you absolutely need to watch this game mechanics video, based on your stated question. And probably take the time to watch ALL the game mechanics videos.

It is most unfortunate that when a guy asks a legit question, many feel the need to insult him....

You can play many games and do well without knowing the reason why you can not pen another tank.

I learned to flank and aim before I started really learning the reasons why I needed to flank and aim.

Hang in there OP, some tanks are near impossible to pen. When I was where you are at I just learned to run away and let someone else deal with it. After maybe 45K games I started learning more about aim point and tracking, then flanking.

Good Luck!

Others have answered your question already.  That said, with 11K+ matches and your overalls, I would suggest that NOW is the time for you to gain greater knowledge.

In this light, I offer to shorten your overall search time for the best and/or most essential information for any WoT Gamer that would like to play better and improve their condition:  The WoT Welcome Package (version 1)

Please pay special attention to the Battle Mechanics Section.  It is linked to Vision and Spotting, however Armor and penetration is just above and you can scroll right to it.  It explains in good detail the armor and penetration mechanics and will help to answer WHY your rounds would not penetrate the armor of a tank that is stronger than your gun's capability.

The LTP is a very good overall Premium Tier III tank.  It was presented to the player base about 3 years or so ago as one of WG's "gift tanks" that they hand out at least once a year.  It can be easily overtaken by tanks with better guns, though when faced with something weaker, it can seem nearly invincible.  (The LTP is one of the tanks you meet that is 'hard to pen' in the "Enter Boot Camp" tutorial.  If you have not done the tutorial in the game Client, I highly encourage you to do so, even though you have so many matches already played).  If the LTP is at all angled to your shot, even the armor hidden behind the tracks can be impenetrable by your gun as it can gain an 'effective' armor rating higher than your gun's pen.

Read those links and chew over the information.  Then, come back and ask more questions.

*(and shame on you guys for being unnecessarily mean about some of your responses, it's clear he doesn't know -- you should be glad he's asking as it's an opportunity to educate a Fellow Gamer)
