Poor guy.  You missed out on so much more game enjoyment.  Condolences.

Says YOU.  What I miss is more than lowest graphics settings.  I see YT videos and replays that people post and I'm Just GREEN with envy -- and I'm a blue owl!!

I see my fps at 8-12 these days and I see people complain, "I've got low fps, it used to be 180 and now it's chugging down to 140," and I'm thinking, You lucky bastid, that's not LOW fps, try 10% of that and then come talk to me.

I have lag freezes due to my wireless rural internet and sometimes it takes three seconds for my system to update due to packet loss (I have to scare birds off my antenna or something) and I get to 'trade shots' with someone who gets a nice optical line or gigabit ethernet and I dream of having a real computer and a real connection.

Mods?  No, sir.  Not missing a thang!  I'm fine with how it looks and I don't need all that extra showy stuff.  I used to play on 5.25" disks with crap wireframe models that ran on my 6MHz 286 system with an EGA monitor, so I can handle the how it looks without all the mods and such and not miss it at all.

I DO miss decent graphics, framerates and a stable connection, because I used to have all that.

Mods?  Nope, not feeling like I missed out on anything.

I appreciate your opinion, though.

OvO

I have not used xvm in years.

I am not uninstalling.

And if WG bans me, so be it, I just won’t be playing WoT.

WG mentions this is illegal:

Quote

Leaving any tags or indicators located on the playing field where the opponent was spotted by someone from the player's team

Isn't this feature in the vanilla client?  Or maybe xvm?

You win...  I had the Commodore 64, thought I was really cool when I was stationed in japan and got myself the C-128.

Yeah - my grandpa started teaching me to type programs in BASIC on the MS-DOS (tape drive to save) computer  ...with an actual 1200 baud handset modem! that he built himself.  (My grandfather was an old-time telegrapher for the Sante Fe Railroad in the 30's-40's (through the war).

.

Dear god, how I wish I had stuck with learning how to program from back then!

(I coulda been a contendah!  )

WGNA: Is there merit to the panic?

Before I discovered Solo was sandboxing crypto mining software I regularly ran his or Anfield's modpacks.  But with the risk of malware I finally just gave up on mods.

.

Today, the front page is all aflutter with players saying to wipe-delete WOT and clean the registry or load WOT onto a new HD... all because of some threat of a ban.

.

So... do I need to do all that silliness?

solo is bundling crypto mining software?  I didn't see that anywhere.

He wasn't bundling back when I got wary of him (and I really liked his modpack btw) - but he was Sandboxing; and there was always the risk of having it included in the DL / Loader.  He might be a literal white knight... but the potential for shenanigans (and the fact that my gaming computer is also my business comp) made me wary

I'm not sure what to do at this point.  I really love my custom sixth sense icon.

Agree.

I really liked what he was doing... except there was this whole shady business.

.

You get used to Vanilla... especially since WG started stealing the good ideas of the Mod community and incorporating it into V.

You're almost definitely fine, but a clean install never hurts.  If you ever used one of the mods specifically detailed here, I would do it just to be safe.

I'm doing none of that trash.  Go ahead and ban me I guess.  That'll save me a lot of money.  lol

Those are indicators on the mini-map, the playing field is your field of view.

You say "do it", what exactly would you recommend?

This should still do the trick.

Wargaming wants you and everyone else to do a complete install of the game simply because by doing that you have zero ability to avoid using their consolidated game portal to play the game

veteran players have been able to avoid this portal because there simply isnt any need to and its a complete waste of time

the moment you uninstall everything and do a fresh reload you will lose forever the ability to simply click the wot.exe  file and log into the game .  why ? is the portal going to be hit with adware in future ? does it have ads now ? couldn't tell you

got my nephew into playing game and ran into this portal thing when installed his game on his PC and no way to get around it you cannot play wot without using portal on a new install

this is step one a voluntary reboot and install those that do not do this regardless of complete vanilla client will be forced at a later time ... they dont want to lose player base by forcing everyone from the start . I simply do not trust or like the portal because on my PC any bank info or anything like passwords are never typed

I copy and paste all confedential info from a thumb drive and that info is loaded to drive when needed from a lap top for my mustang with all my tuning software and that lap top has never once been online ..

poormans security but works .. the portal will not let you paste the info in therefore it has to be typed .. I avoid key loggers by never typing stuff into my pc like bank info and passwords

All that work, and your passwords, social and personal information has been stolen already at least 10 times lol.
