I'm super sensitive to the feels of the kids these days; they all seem super sensitive to suggestions like:

  • "It's okay to shoot red tanks that are lit"

and

  • "Please actually play the game"

and

  • "What in the living frigging heck are you doing humping rocks you stupid frigging little oxygen thief?!? "

...

I need some suggestions from those of you in the younger generation who don't appreciate constructive criticism: how do I encourage players to not ...I don't know... waste everyone else's time, and to actually do something - anything - by actually trying to contribute to the group effort?

.

Seriously?  What do you do to make your fellow kiddos feel safe in actually trying?  I need help here.  I want to respect your safe space - but I'd also like... perhaps a little effort?

You are trying to reach out to a demographic which is highly unreceptive even to people in positions of authority. Popular culture fosters systematic rebellion by painting it as "cool".

In other words, it's basically impossible. When interacting with us millenials, I think the third option, verbatim, is the best choice.

Best just to disable your chat in case anything you say might be taken as offence, by someone, somewhere.

Maybe you should stick to CW and SH if you require players to play as you require. At least in CW and SH, you have some control over the team's composition and tactics...

In a random battle, it's just that, random. No one needs to play the game as you require or command...

It amazes me how many people have no idea where the w key is but have no problem finding the help button.  I've gotten to the point I just don't care anymore.  I play my tank and do the best I can and don't worry about others.

Hmmmm....  But does that engender reflection at some point?  I mean, I know that authoritarianism is an aggression, as is experience or coaching - so the question is... does the third option grant some sense of self- awareness and realization?  Do players then self-analyze and thus realize a new paradigm?

Save yourself the trouble and aggravation and uninstall ? Or take a break, a long break.

There is always an option.

Ask.

Every once and a while I turn on my chat. It is usually this or similar scenario, that gets me to chat.

I need spotting to play. So,, if I want a look at a map section.

"Hey Type 64, could you take a look at A3 when you have a chance." "Can one of your lights at B7 take a look over the hill after you are done."

"Hey, can one of you at the spawn help me out over here."

I am shocked at the response. I actually expected to be totally ignored or lots of negative commentary.

I have been pleasantly surprised, probably 4 or 5 out 10 tries, someone helps out.

If they don't, oh well, sigh. I find something else to try and support.

How do you know you're talking to anyone young? You likely has as much of a chance talking to a 60 year old as a 16 year old.

If you leave spawn, you leave the base unprotected so I was told by one of these expert campers in the top tier T110E5.

Ignore them and use them as HP pools and vision blocks.   It's a waste of time to try to explain what they are doing is wrong and, even if you're polite about it, they'll not take kindly to suggestions a majority of the time.   So don't bother.   Play your match and use them as tools to further a win.

@ the OP +1 for caring.

However, play your game and let them play theirs.

If someone wants to pay for my game then I will allow them to play it however they want to. As you and I don't pay for other players accounts (I hope you don't) then we just have to get used to the campers and let them be.

Remember it's only a game of pixels and really not worth the deep thoughts of how to better influence players that just want to play their own way.

I have said before "hey (insert name here) you have permission to move from cap" and it's actually worked.

Older people have thicker skin and don't think of every criticism as an aggression.
