To track someone I assumed you just had to hit the tracks. But am I wrong? Im starting to think you actually have to hit the drive gears. Let me know thanks.

I believe that you can knock off tracks if you hit them anywhere with an HE round.  But if you're using other types of rounds, like an AP, you need to hit either the drive wheel or the return wheel.

Like he said, But its a good habit to aim for the drive wheel to begin with because then you also do damage while tracking.

Yeah like J3Tears said, hitting the drive wheel is a good spot to get module and HP damage. You can still track by shooting the sides of the wheels but the drive wheels are bigger targets generally and if they are facing you, then shooting the tracks dead on does the trick

You also need to remember that the caliber of the gun you are using can really effect your ability to track the other tank.  Since each gun has a hidden module damage number, this is the reason why some tanks take two shots to track another tank where others take one.

Red - full chance to destroy track

Green - halved chance to destroy track

Best: Shot tank at angle through first or last sprocket so you will both destroy track and deal damage to tank hitpoints.
