Howdy Boom Jockeys!
Get ready for the D-Day Sheriff Event happening this weekend 8Jun19-9Jun19.
How did D-Day first start?
Stainlessrat: Long long ago on a server far far away (2015 - USE)... Well, really there’s a small core group of us that were part of the [FELIX] family of clans. We were [F3LIX] and we were going to be the scrub competitive clan in that family. When [FELIX] main finally withered away to nothing we decided to change our name and go on our own. We held a vote for a new name and [D-DAY] won out. Who doesn’t love invasion stripes?
Fatherjohn_: I first was in FELIX back in back in 2015, then she basically imploded, so I moved to F3LIX. Then she became D-Day, and like mold they have been stuck we me ever since
What is your clan’s vision?
Stainlessrat: Our vision is to have fun - even when we get stomped. If you’re not enjoying the game then you’re doing it wrong. We’re scrubs and we admit it but we have fun doing it. Hell the guy that follows the calls best out of all of us is the deaf guy!
Almighty_Johnson: To Crush our enemies, see them driven from the Global Map, and hear the lamentation of their Waifus.
Desert_Fox_1969: Having fun playing and giving players a good home that are not able to get into the top clans.
MacDaddyMatty: Real-life comes first. No whiny, trolly, rage-machines. A “good” group of people that happen to play tanks well.
Fatherjohn_: to be honest the Clan has already surpassed my expectations. Forcing me to raise them again. We are a respectable clan that gets better everyday. We have gone from upper Clans ignoring us to them taking us seriously. We may never be the best but without the training requirement other clans have we are still contenders. That says a lot for our Core Leadership.
Zor007: To me our Clan’s Vision and our Greatest Accomplishment is the same.
I believe we have accomplished our Vision of building a great clan, based on good spirited, non toxic group of gamers looking to help each other out.
I would also include this as one of our proudest moments. To have Wargaming recognize and feature our Clan, is to vindicates every minute our members and officers have invested to fairplay and good sportsmanship.
What is your greatest accomplishment(s) as a clan?
Stainlessrat: To me it’s the community we’ve created. People come and go, but the clan goes on. People are always willing to step up and help move the community forward in a positive way. We’ll never be top 10, but we did finished 26th one season - without a requirement that forced anyone to commit time, people showed up because they wanted to.
MacDaddyMatty: Having officers from top clan come to me on the WoT forum and in-game and tell me they appreciate the fact that our clan-tag is recognized as respected for housing decent people - not twits and (censored). Those relationships have led to online friendships, and the occasional work-together in Clan Wars well above our pay-grade, and many recommendations for newer players / WoT-Blitz-refugees to come to us as a good place to learn the game.
FatherJohn_: Communication is out greatest accomplishment. We have learned to take a terrible lose, listen to everyone that play, as well as the ones who sat out and listened to our communications, take their input and improve our game play the next time.
How if any does your job or experience in real life aid your Leadership or ability to be a Competitive clan?
Stainlessrat: I’ve lead teams at work of 20+ plus people of all different backgrounds and that taught me lots of patience. I’m an analyst for a Fortune 125 company, which has really come in handy for rules analysis for the global map events.
Almighty_Johnson: We have more than a few career military members, senior NCO’s and Officers alike. That environment and culture teaches you how to lead by example and work with people of all backgrounds and walks of life. I think it enables us to pull a lot of varied people together who might not get along like the family we are otherwise.
Rubicite: I’m a retired US Army officer and have also led business teams after I left military service. That experience of herding diverse groups of people towards common objectives is valuable when talking about clan members from practically every type of background and encouraging them towards clan goals. Keep in mind that clan membership is fully voluntary and people can just leave whenever they feel the clan isn’t worth their time. Our job as clan leaders is to make it worthwhile to be in D-Day.
Desert_Fox_1969: I am a Business Process Analyst and work continuously with diverse teams of all educational backgrounds and skill levels.
MacDaddyMatty: Nothing can prepare you.
HAH, just kidding. One set of rules for everyone. Plus, you have to keep it fun and interesting. That means training room to learn how to kill the new tank, clan events that focus on laughs and community, and being there for each other when we’re having a bad run of RNG. I’m a retired US Marine LtCol.
Fatherjohn_: I can claim the military taught me how to shot, move, and communicate. Coupled that with lead follow and get the hell out of the way. These lessons have instilled in me that everyone input is valuable, and any one can set up at anytime and become a hero. All it take in 3 seconds to go from zero to hero. Mainly I think my leader style, is here is the plan, but at anytime allow someone with better information to make a decision. Being flexible in combat means you live to fight another day.
Your clan is part of a community of clans. Which clan(s) makeup that community and what is your relationship with them?
Stainlessrat: [D-DAY] is our main clan, [HHOUR] is our sister clan. The clan symbols are the same. At any given time you can find members of both clans on teamspeak doing things together as one community.
Rubicite: We’re also thinking about new clans called Y-YEAR and W-WEEK for anyone who wants to practice red-line camping, yolo’ing, or arty.
MacDaddyMatty: One Community, 2 clans: a competitive clan, and a social clan. People go back and forth between the 2 clans depending on their WoT involvement. Don’t tell anyone, but we have some alt accounts in [HHOUR] who’s main accounts are in well known clans. This is all off the record, right?
Zor007: D-Day & H-Hour are one Clan within the WOT community. We have many neighbors we get along with great, and there are a very few neighbors that are a challenge to engage with civilly. We don’t always choose the Clans in our community, but we can show our family ways to navigate through our missions, and campaigns with respect, and fortitude.
We many never make top 10 Clan (been 26th), but our members reputation for being exceptionally considerate, while ripping the soul out of the poor tank commander caught in their crosshairs, will never be surpassed.
“Sorrey”
Fatherjohn_: unfortunate none really overall all clans are just friend-emies.
If you could change anything about the competitive scene in WoT, what would it be?
Stainlessrat: Clan Wars is fun but there’s way to much sitting around and waiting. If there was a way to have CW use the format of an Advance it’d sure make things more interesting. Back to back battles with 2 minute breaks between them until you either win the land or you’re out. What’s not to like?
Almighty_Johnson: I miss the days when the Global Map had Tier 6 and 8 zones as well as Tier 10. There are a lot of people who enjoy playing the mid tiers and perhaps don’t have the skill set to play top tier against some extremely stiff competition. I think it would be nice to have an avenue for them to compete on more even footing. It’s never fun to always feel like you get curb-stomped and it doesn’t encourage the less experienced clans to grow.
Desert_Fox_1969: Would be great if ‘weaker’ clans could get a piece of the pie. Create low income regions on maps that can only be challenged by Clans that are not in the Top 50.
MacDaddyMatty: I’d like to see clans rated by high and low ELO. Then allow 2 low ELO clans to ally with 1 high ELO clan (3 clan alliance: 1 high, 2 low). Allow 6 of the tanks on a team to be from the allied clans (9 from the chipping clan). This would involve a lot more clans and make map management a lot more diabolical!
Yeah, I’m evil like that.
I’d also like to see 2 fronts on the GM: Tier 10 (with 9s), and Tier 9 (with 8s). If a clan is above a certain ELO, they get no gold for playing in the 9/8 front. Think of it as the pro and farm leagues. Having tier 8s means that a clan with a bunch of premium 8s could play, but the ground 9s would have advantage.
Fatherjohn_: WoT has never figured out a way to get uber clan to want to partner with lesser clans to help them grow. The current play model is dog eat dog. What would be great to see is grand battles between 2 clans 10 per clan & 20 per side. With a huge difference in their EL rating (one good and one not so good on the same team). This way people could start seeing how other clans run and maybe pick up some skills and knowledge to improve their clan game play.
Fatherjohn_: PART 2: Stop with everyone should want to play this one nation (RU) meta crap, and everyone should hate ARTY. Its getting old and frankly costing you business \ well my cash.
Zor007: Not sure if this qualifies, but it is something I would love to see implemented into the game. It’s always bothered me that when tracked in game, we can hit “repair” and magically our tracks are fixed. I would like to see WOT have the player not only use his repair kit, but also chose a crew member to be sacrificed in order to have the repair performed. This would be a better representation of how dangerous that action is in the middle of a battle. I understand that this would totally change the entire dynamex of the game (limited number of crew members= limited number of repairs+first aid kits...ect….). But when I think of all the ways this would affect the game play, the individual decision making, the strategy adjustments, the kaos. I get excited. DO IT
Speaking from your player experience, what differences have you noticed by going from a player not in a clan to being in a clan and then being an officer in the clan?
Stainlessrat: I’ve been wearing the same tags for almost 4 years, I don’t remember what it’s like to not be in a clan. Being an officer just means you’re willing to do what you can to help the group, even if it means you do more admin stuff than actual playing. I talk to a lot of other clan leaders and it’s the same for them, more admin then playing, especially during clan wars.
Almighty_Johnson: I played solo for the first couple of years and didn’t even realize how much more fun could be had with the shared strengths of a clan. Plus being able to talk to your mates in real time as you play adds real depth to the experience. It also allowed me to start learning the game mechanics and dramatically improved my skill set.
Rubicite: I’m not the most social person but even I got tired of no personal interaction when playing. I don’t speak in our voice chat very much, but I enjoy hearing the banter between clan members.
Desert_Fox_1969: I just like to play with the same group of people towards a common goal. I am glad D-DAY took me in despite my handicap.
MacDaddyMatty: I mostly run solo except for organized events. We get players from other clans (and no clan) hang out in our team-speak quite often. We also have many officers each that does a little. This helps prevent burnout. The bottom line is find your fun in WoT and do that. Unless it’s 5k games in a tier 2 tank. Don’t do that.
Fatherjohn_: For me honestly I have not noticed a thing. I still play the same(well not so much since the last ARTY nerf). I still help anyone I can when asked. I will listen whenever someone needs an ear to chew. I still speak up when things start getting nuts. I still do all the same things I did as a play now I just have a officer title, and my thoughts and ideas now carry a little more weight, not much but a little. But most of all I get to go into the officers channel any time I want.
What is your favorite Tier 10 and why?
Stainlessrat: The 50B because if you ram a light tank with that pike nose it’s G L O R I O U S.
Almighty_Johnson: Well, it was the FV4005(Stage II), until it was so cruelly and heartlessly slain by the nerf hammer…. In the current meta, I’d have to say either the Super Conqueror because of the play style, or the T110E3, because it’s so bloody troll.
Desert_Fox_1969: Super Conqueror: I just like the way the tank handles. Well rounded Heavy tank.
MacDaddyMatty: Badger because of the song.
NO wait… DeathStar because LOL.
NO wait… Obj-277 because iz stronk tovarish!
NO wait… Type 5 because… no, not anymore (sad trombone).
NO wait… POKEMON - MUST COLLECT THEM ALL!
NO wait…
Fatherjohn_: Pre-Nerf GC: why: because I could influence the tide of battle better supporting my clan, by making the enemy move to a location better suited for my teammates to kill the enemy.
Post Nerf: STRV Why: 9.5k dps, 7 kills, and a win over (REDACTED). Need I say more?
Any last comments? (Throwing people under the bus section)
Stainlessrat: Thanks to all those clans out there for the good fights and the “GG”s. Oh, and ignore anything Fatherjohn has said, he’s a damn clicker. Zor is Canadian, so to change it up I’m going to apologize for him - sorry. I already know what MacDaddyMatty is going to say to the tier 10 question, the Badger. The Badger is the reason he has a spatter shield over his tv screen. Hearing him play that tank in CW is like listening to bad 80’s porn (not that I’d know what that sounds like, cough).
FatherJohn_: Look I am a ANTI-CLICKER. I click half the amount you do and still out DPS you. Will I did until this last nerf… Can I have some cheese to go with my whining the last 2 nerfs
Rubicite: Maybe it’s just me, but I think WG is going in the right direction. There are things that I wish would change or there are things I wish were in the game, but, on the whole, I like the recent changes. Oh, and I’ll take that M60 code directly to my inbox. k-thx
Desert_Fox_1969: Thank you to my former Clan for kicking me or I would’ve not found this great group of guys.
MacDaddyMatty: “HOORAY! Mines map in my tier 10! SAID NO ONE EVAR!!!”
*sincker*
Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube (MacDaddyMatty) for WoT and Visual Novel videos!
Zor007: Love this Clan!
This Months Feature is not just for us, but for all the Clans out there that are not built on great stats, but rather exceptional people.
