Howdy Tankers,

I'm in a weird spot right now as I have a Chi-Nu-Kai in my garage with no crew and no tech tree Japanese mediums.  I have enough Free XP to get 80% down the line, but what I'm really wondering is if ANY of the Japanese meds are worth getting. I'd like to train my crew to one of them for my premium, but I'm not sure which - and I don't care if it's Tier 2 or Tier 9.

So please,

Let's be honest...

Let's be real...

and let's give __WarChild__

the Real Deal...

Thank you.

Some of them are kinda fun but you should abandon any thought of doing this line as it is one of the worst lines in the game aside from a few exceptions. Only bother if you are determined and treat tanks like they are pokemon where you have to have them all.

BUT, I have this Premium Tank, so I at least want to train the crew to the right tech tree tank if I ever want to play it.  Tier 2 or 3 any good?

I am grinding that line now. I have to say it is really painful. I just hope the STB 1 is worth it. GLHF

I like the Japanese medium tanks, the STB-1 is worth it.

Tier 4 is nice, but tier 4 is screwed by -1/+2.  Great prem ammunition on 57mm

Tier 5 Chi nu and prem nu kai aren't as nice. Unfortunately prem ammunition is lacking. DPM is middling, poor mobility

Tier 6 is back to nice. Prem pen is still middling, poor mobility, but nice DPM  (like T3485M and cromwell)  Quite high HP pool

Tier 7 is terrible. Real terrible

Tier 8 STA is nice coming the next patch. Now it is.....Next patch though, great DPM almost like Caernarvon A X

STA2 prem is nice coming the next patch. Not STA1 nice, but welcome speed buffs. Will be as fast as progetto

Type 61 is the highlight of the line. Pen is not poor like E50, T54E1, T54, or Patton. Good all-around, except hull armour

STB1 is quite sad. l don't think Pat 1.5.1 will change much.  This thing just sits in my garage. Won't play it.

l'd rather play my 121 than STB1.

well, i don't know about tiers 8-10, but the tiers 5 and 6 are nice, and the tier 7 is weird. if you can get around the low pen and low alpha, coupled with your MASSIVE target of a tank, it can work.

Tiers VIII-X are Good AND Fun!!!  I'd Grind it (I DID).  PLUS, the X is going to get the Hydraulics the Swedish Mediums have.  That'll make it even better.  It's not the greatest Tier X Medium, obviously, but its WORTHY!!!  PLUS, you have a TRAINER if you have the Premium STA-2.  Personally, I'm not crazy about Xs I don't/can't get a Tier VIII Premium Crew Trainer... Like, THANK GOD for the TS-5 FINALLY!

Thank you fellas, after long and careful consideration...I choose None of the Above.  She'll just sit idle in my Reserve Garage until something exciting happens to that line, if ever.

MANY THANK!!

The tier 4 Chi-He is pretty nice, but that is as far as I wanted to go. Great gun depression, mobile enough, no armour except against MG's on the front. Works pretty good.

But do you want to play tier 4?

Other option for now would be to train the crew as is in the Premium and maybe later make a switch to one you think you may like after giving more thought to it.

edit: Incidentally you asked about even lower tiers. I liked the gun on the tier 3 Chi-Ha. Good for it's tier. Also great depression.

Just do the new Swedish mediums instead.  They have the most up to date power-creep on them.

well hey, if you ever change your mind, make sure to keep in mind that the Japanese mediums are incredibly plain tanks, and their whole shtick is being well balanced

The tier VII is fun as hell. The clip loads fast, it auto-reloads fast and pretty much puts all three shots in the same spot. The Tier 8 was a bit painful. The Type 61 is good when maxed out. Not a fan of the tier 10.

I don't have a problem playing tiers 2-4, but I have all but 1 OP tank at those tiers, so didn't really want to add another just to add it.

I had the Leo researched fully down both lines, but no interest in those meds anytime soon.  Best tank in that line is the Primo Victoria, so I'll just keep playing that one.

I'm not going to waste gold/credits assigning a crew on a tank that I won't play much.  I have fun with the other lines and I've never had much respect for this line of tanks. I'm afraid that tradition shall continue...

Don't worry. Neither the Chi-he nor Chi-Ha are OP. Just they can be pretty useful in the right hands, decent crew.

ln every reality of existence, Tier Vll Chi Ri sucks.

What you have in existence, are heavy tank camo, size, speed, and HP/T......on a medium tank armoured body. This is a disaster, right at the start.  Again, no heavy tank penetration either, and having to expose yourself for 3 aimed shots for just 130 damage is laughable. How does something football field sized, like Chi Ri only have 550 horsepower?  This thing, is just an extremely bad Skoda T25, placed a tier higher. lt sucks.

Your advantages of autoloader, accuracy, gun depression don't mean awhole lot. 3x130 is a joke, even if you trade damage. Because tier 6 and 7 already have soviet 122mm that deal 390. So your entire clip, equates a single 390 hit, but you have to pen each with 155mm not 175mm pen. Skoda at least does this, as a small target, with the same gun depression, with a forward mount turret, while having real med camo and speed. 3x110 is better tier 6 than 3x130 tier 7, that is for sure.

Chi Ri needs serious buffs. increase horsepower to 800. lncrease autoloader magazine to 4 shells. lncrease 75mm damage to 140 like comet. Make the front turret 95mm like the gun mantle, not 75 so gun depression actually works vs tier 5.

It's just that the latest normal/free line, whatever it is, is usually to most OP in the game.  Currently, this is French Clown Cars and Swedish mediums.

For the record, I liked and did well in the chi nu kai back in the day, close to 3 marking it actually. To be fair, that was a couple years back. I suspect that tier is different now, maybe power crept.

If all you need is a crew for one tank and dont have anyone qualified in the barracks, then just buy a crew and train to 75% if all you have is credits or 100% if you have enough gold. Grinding a line just to acquire a crew for a premium vehicle is a lot of trouble if you dont intend to stay with that line all the way to tier X.

You can unload a clip, reload it and unload it again before most tanks can fire and reload one shot. How is that not fun? Especially if you actually got yourself to a good position.

Also, your math sucks. 330 is not better than 390 any day of the week.
