Comparison for reference

1000 km x 1000 km                                                                800 km x 800 km

I haven't played the west side yet but i have played the city so i'll give my thoughts on that, i think they changed it too much, the buildings are way too spaced out now, and the part that was previously a full circle is only a quarter now, i'm not asking for old Kharkov back, just that they push the buildings closer together and fill in the outer gaps so you don't have to worry about being shot by somebody you're not fighting.

A lot of wide firing lanes in the city. Perhaps it gives an advantage to camping TDs.

I'm hesitant to say yes, since I've been wrong about the HD maps multiple times before (Fjords, Fisherman's Bay, Erlenberg, Paris), but so far, I like it... I did enjoy the old Kharkov, but I'm all for a larger version of it with a more playable field.

That being said, I think it's too early for me to make a concrete opinion, and who knows if I'll change my mind after playing it with more tanks / Tiers.

I like the old kharkov better. Every time WG remakes a map, they design it to be more static and campy. The old Kharkov was easier to attack on. Now everything in the city is locked down. There is an extra bunker in the heavy area. They removed the middle building so that section is impossible to push. The East ring does not yield firing lanes into city anymore. If you push on the open area left of the east ring, there is a broken TD position that covers it. Field also has elevated TD positions that lock everything down. It's just turned into another map that prevents people who know what they are doing from taking too much control of the game. It's just another dumbed down map design that favors people who just want to sit around and wait for people to attack them....except that is now strategically the best thing to do on a lot of the map reworks.

I prefer the old map. Back then, it felt easier to brawl for heavies, and still had enough space on the edge for mediums and lights to roam. Now it feels like a crappy version of ensk. Although I've only played on the new map once, the city was a camp fest and no one went field.

So far the worst part about the map is no one knows how to play it.  First battle on it my team failed spectacularly in the city - even though the enemy did a big push west field (i.e. our team had a numbers advantage in the city).  We got overrun in the western fields, as once their first scout snuck across and spotted everyone.  My toonmate and I were in fast tanks, initially we fell back to the SE corner and tried to snipe the flood of enemies but we realized we would get overrun very quickly.  We noticed our city squad had finally made some headway so we rushed all the way north to their base and capped them out.  Total win steal, as they had us very beaten on both flanks...

-

Someone posted earlier that the two high snipe positions lock down the entire west field, I tend to agree.

-

But new map, so I'm thankful for that (and it's no Paris...)

Played it twice, both time as a scout, both times agressively pushed field middle with a couple of other scouts. Killed arty, mopped up. Both wins.

No complaints so far. Will see how things play out as people learn good counter spots to hold field. Field seems to have a lot of ridges and small hills to allow short range movement with cover. Decent number of bushes.

I haven't been on it yet because I've been to tired to play much more than a few battles a night but I can say it was my favorite map so I doubt I would like this version better because it didn't need anything done to it imo.

From experience on common test, I like it. Firing lanes across city and fields for TDs. City with lots of hard cover and alleyways for Heavies. Enlarged field with hard and soft cover for mediums and lights. It seems so far like one of the more balanced maps in the game, and it definitely looks nice too.

I'd say good job WG, but it's too early to be totally sure

It's bigger. At least they got that part right.

I haven’t played it yet, but my impression is that it looks like they went too far again with opening up firing lanes and creating unnecessary powerful camping spots that shut down whole sections of the map. I’m not a fan of so many maps being so hard to push due to hard cover elevated TD positions (Erlenberg, Paris field, Airfield, Ghost Town, etc). I don’t think it’s a good trend. However, we’ll see how it plays out and how the meta develops.

Haven't played it yet: the Shaky target tags bug drove me right off line.

I've had 1 battle on the new kharkov. The old elements are all still there while adding new ones to make it unique, but still kharkov.

Well done WG

I couldn't agree with you more on this TRU.  This map now fits with the new meta for pub matches.  With arty and wheeled vehicles in the mix, it will be interesting to see how this map plays out now.

This is why I enjoy the map currently. We have had this game so oriented to cramped city maps for the heavy players. I like the rolling terrain and use of it. I played in the city last night twice it was more than adequate. None of the times I played it so far has the city had hardly anyone in it.

So far as getting shot from unexpected areas of the map as another poster said....map awareness would help not map revisions.
