Recently got the French S35 CA and wonder which gun is "better."

The first gun has great ROF and the best pen, but does the least damage of the three (but still respectable at Tier 5).

The "second" gun has slightly less pen, twice the damage, and less than half the ROF - and takes longer to aim with greater dispersion.

The "top" gun has much lower pen, with ROF, damage, and dispersion between the other two.

Thoughts?

Look at premium shell damage on long 105, same as with its HT version its filthy p2w gun from dark ages when premium ammo was available for gold only. It gets +10% damage when gold spamming.

On most targets it encounters 165mm penetration of standard AP will be enough, and for few harder ones you can abuse increased alpha strike of filthy geld rounds.

As for choice, I believe it to be matter of preferences. I used both, switching them depending on math maker mood and average team composition of day. Nowdays you might prefer 90mm most of times, but 105 cheaty gold alpha will come in handy if you want to complete TD 401 for that sweet 10k xp.

Stock gun minuscule damage will put you in huge disadvantage when fighting at low/medium distance. Have in mind current map selection.

Even if you choose 105, research 90 anyway as it is required for further progression anyway.

S35CA is in the really cool position of having three viable guns, with each gun changing the way you play the machine.  The 105mm is probably the most effective right now, but back when there was more soft cover on the maps and TD's didn't lose camo when firing, the 17 pounder was terrific for its rate of fire.

It is a matter of preference in choosing between the 105mm & the 90mm. I preferred the 90mm when I played it. I also used the 90mm DCA 30 for the entire ARL V39 grind and just packed a decent amount of premium rounds.

Many others have given good advice.  Here's my thought.  Once you fire you're going to be seen, and the '39 is a barn with clapboard armor.  So...hit once for the most damage you can and get under cover, or take the fastest gun and hope for a couple of shots before your enemies 'aim in' on you.

The 105 is an absolute terror. Tier V and VI heavy tanks have no defense against it and it can knock Tier V mediums right out of the battle. If less than 70% health, they die; if full health they become a one-shot for anyone.

I use the 105mm gun.  Its catastrophic to tier 5 and 6 tanks.  165mm of pen is usually more than enough to get the job done.

The 105mm baguette launcher makes it pretty much a tier 5 JPz E 100, nobody wants to get hit by that thing.

It is also amusing when it oneshots same tier TDs because it decided to high roll.

Top gun, obviously. It's what sets this tank apart. If you aint playing with the 105mm you're playing it wrong.

I'd say the 105mm sets it apart more than anything else.  What other T5 TD can wield a T6 heavy tank gun (aside from way back when SU-85 could run the 107mm)?

Plus you get +10% to damage for APCR spamming for some reason.

To be fair, the S35CA stock gun is technically a T7 heavy tank gun.  It's nearly identical to Black Prince's best gun.

i use the 105. its has the highest ability to delete tanks on the battlefield and loading APCR lets you go into turbo mode

the 17pdr is probably the 2nd best gun.

I have played a couple now with the "top" gun - and it plays so differently!

Before, I could hit one tank and then another if two were in view.  Now, I can hit one, but no chance of hitting another in same quick-chance.  OTOH, the one I hit takes so much more of a punch!

Seems like later in game, when many tanks are one-shots for either gun, that the first gun would be a lot better.  Too bad I cannot dab-dab 4 and change guns!

I vote 105 as well.

That alpha at tier V ... *chef's kiss*

After hundreds of battles in mine, i stick to the 17pounder. Ive tried them all, but prefer the accuracy and ROF with smaller gun. The TD has great gun arc, workable gun depression, and good cammo. Its easy to stay hidden and pour out the fire power.

105 seems good - have not played with the 90 mm (though I researched it) - I mistakenly called it the "top" gun above

Loved that with the first gun and even managed a 9 kill game with it.
Will eventually be going back to that tank and line; my enjoyment of turretless TDs comes and goes.
