yes, always blame the victim for actually playing the game instead of staying in the garage...
In post mortem view the other day I watched an EBR 105 playing super erratic at full speed, you know the type of stuff that makes anti-wheeler zealots say that they can't be hit even with the fastest of APCR shells? at one point he straightened out in order to do a small bunny hop and not either spin out completely, or cartwheel into oblivion, or get shot by the real tanks...
M53/55 hit him mid-air for a full penetrating hit.
clearly 100% the EBR's fault for playing the game
Unfortunately, that is the random BS that just goes on to enrage the anti-artillery players more, while we humble SPG players grit our teeth because we know that was a BS super RNG shot. I can lead targets like a mad man and put people into the dirt. But, if you're going to ask me if I can hit weak spots on targets on the move that are jumping through the air, I'm going to laugh and respond with a "Not just no but hell no".
I don't think that you're asking for me to defend it or rationalize it. Truth is, in instances like this, I've got nothing to back the situation. What I will say is this. Artillery has problems. But, and this is my personal feeling, artillery is the culmination of a lot of bad things that are problematic but are a part of all of the other tanks, in the game. If maps were different, arty wouldn't be as big of a problem. If funnels didn't exist, arty wouldn't be as big of a problem. If Sigma values weren't the same, across all tanks, arty wouldn't be as big of a problem. So on and so forth it goes. It just so happens that all of the internal and external factors, on individual tanks across the game, all happen to exist within artillery. Yet, people want arty to be changed, which can't really be done if the issues still remain on other tanks.
To your original point, grandtheftankIV was a turd for writing what he did and your response was apt.
