I believe it's directly behind the headlights. I believe there is one in the back of the turret also.

The tank is so small that it's almost hard not to hit the ammo rack.

Layout of Type 59 is almost IDENTICAL to T-54. Driver sits front left with some 100mm ammunition to his right...

To help spare yourself the anguish try and save up and buy a Wet Ammo Rack. Since I have done that, I might have lost some ammo but I have never exploded from it again.

The very first 3 battles in this tank I was killed above 95% life by direct hits to my rack.

Its worth the investment if you intend to grind this tank for credits.

Ammo rack locations

1st Rack
Left of Driver directly behind glacis plate

2nd,3rd,4th Racks
Inside turret,sides and rear

5th Rack
Right next to turret ring on left side

6th Rack
Right behind the driver on right side of turret ring

Other weakspot

There is a large gap between the first and second roadwheels, this is right next to the driver.

Exposed Saddle Tanks are very vulnerable to take damage

Roof MG is a great HE magnet.

cant confirm this. Fired there multiple times no damage reported to ammo rack (or detonation).

2nd,3rd,4th Racks
Inside turret,sides and rear

Not confirmed. Fired 20 rounds at the turret sides in multiple locations no ammo rack damage or detonation.

Quote

5th Rack
Right next to turret ring on left side
If this is the side with the 2 big toolboxes covering the ring.. then not confirmed. Multiple rounds penetrated there no ammo rack damage.

Quote

6th Rack
Right behind the driver on right side of turret ring

The side that doesnt have a toolbox in the middle but a metal hook grabbing wire. shoot AT the hook: ammo rack hit 8 out of 10 times. So I confirm this to be a reliable ammo spot.

Other weakspot

There is a large gap between the first and second roadwheels, this is right next to the driver.

Fired in between each roadwheel LOW in the hull (the big gaps between the track and the wheels = bounce!) .. penetrated but did regular damage. Hitting the road wheels themselves are 0dmg hits.

Roof MG is a great HE magnet.

roof MG is not a solid object. fired at it from multiple angles from very close range. Even if the MG highlights the tank contour it is not a hit box.

Shooting the headlight in the front of the tank penetrates..but only from very close range (acc issues?).

Issue: shooting the big toolboxes above the tracks = round goes THROUGH and hits the ground doing ZERO damage. No other tank does this. Hilarious.

I've detonated a type 59 in my jumbo with a single 105 shot to the lower right side of the turret slightly to the rear.

Everywhere.

But the real problem with it is that 320 dmg guns can destroy it in one hit.

Damn I was pretty much right on. My left and right needs some work, but thats what I get when I drink after reading all those Ratte and other drinking threads....

If it has so many ammo racks, and so does the 54,why so few shells?

Actually, crunching some number, each rack carries ~5 shells. So as you deplete your ammo, does each rack become inactive or does it all read it as a full or empty rack?

Each rack should become empty and it will not have a chance to explode when struck.

I find it funny how vulnerable the Type-59 is to ammo rack explosions compared to the T-54... considering that the Type-59 is the Chinese designation for the lend-lease T54-A, an improved version of the basic T-54 model. The soviets helped China build it's tank manufacturing facility and initially supplied them with all the parts needed to assemble T-54a's.

You see where the engine is supposed to be? good, everywhere but there is either an ammo-rack or a fuel tank xD

Interesting, so basically the right side is the right side to hit?

I should keep the diagram for future reference.

Unfortunately the game doesn't consider which rack has its shells depleted. Only that there are still 'shells' loaded. So Any rack hit the dice are rolled if you are going to go boom or not.
