Whether it comes in the form of a natural or manmade EMP, global pandemic, Yellowstone eruption, civil war, etc a major Boogaloo is likely going to happen during our lifetime. What preps if any have you made to help mitigate its effects on you and your loved ones? Food, water, medicines, weapons, specialized training. Just think for a moment if the power went off 1 minute from now and did not come back on for several months or years. What would you do today and in the following months? Would you be part of the 60-80% die off or would you survive?

These things are all likely to happen SOMETIME, but in a given lifetime any one of these things is an incredibly rare event. The VAST majority of people will never experience any of these things.

Which is why when it does happen(and it will) the vast majority of people effected by it will die off. Just like in california they are living on borrowed time till 'the big one' hits and levels most of the state.

As for me I'm old and don't worry too much anymore about the future though I do have some backup power generation, dry goods storage and other items to get past a short term emergency that stretches out to about a year or so. Past that if the nation is still screwed then nothing I could have done will help.

The vast majority of people are going to be screwed unless they have the ability to be completely self sufficient. This requires a massive investment in time and money. Many of the so-called "preppers" are going to buy themselves a few extra months if they're lucky. Many more are just deluding themselves into believing they're doing anything worthwhile at all.

Well along with my neighbors I could be self sufficient as we all have plenty of land to grow crops and raising chickens and other small farm animals is as easy as letting them forage naturally. City and suburban dwellers? Screwed no matter how much food they stuff in a closet because once the general food supply runs out then your neighbors will be dining on your stuff(maybe you too) after they take it. The zombie apocalypse is real but instead of the shambling rotting undead corpses walking around eating everything in sight it will be mobs of starving civilians who are ultimately just as dead as the zombies but before they go they might as well be an undead horde. My best advice for maximizing survival is to gtfo out of the city and find a nice small town with an agricultural base with a strong sheriffs department. I've gotten to know my sheriffs and they have plans to block any 'urban migrants' fleeing the city and suburban areas which are about 50 miles away.

Cool! The kind of topic I can sink my teeth into. :great:

This would have been such a good movie.

^^^^This is a battle I've seen coming since the 1990s.

I've been on it since the 1990s. Back then the Southern Poverty Law Center's Militia Watch division listed my business address in it's list of dangerous militia's it sent to U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno.

I still have a case of MRE's from the 1980s.  Between that and the Chuck Norris films I've watched over the years, I should be good to go.

The easiest way to prepare for short term events is to pack some canned goods into a pantry or basement with a few 20lb bags of rice. If kept cool and dry that stuff lasts a couple of decades too. Just make sure to not get any acidic type foods as they can eat away the inside lining and make the food distasteful or even unhealthy so no cans of ravioli type products unless you rotate them out after two years.

Had a power outage for close to 3 weeks during Sandy.  Generator sure came in handy.  But those gas lines @ 2am in the morning were unreal.  Food wise was fine.

I'm well prepared for the end of the world... and it has nothing to do with guns, ammo, radiation detectors, tons of canned foods or perma-stored drinking water.
