To me they seem cheap and undermine a big part of this game.

Surprise! It's not a mod. It's a standard client feature.

The hit indicator is built into the vanilla client so its not illegal to have or use ..

1) As others have said, it's part of the vanilla client.

2) Even if it wasn't, mods are equal opportunity. Every mod that WG officially allows is legal and therefore cannot be cheating. WG decides what is cheating in their game, you don't.

LOL...  This is one weird thread.

Unless he had a brain fart and was meaning enemy "spotted indicators", which sadly now are banned.

The "colored one" should have been banned, it always had a cheat function that was technically against the rules, but the simple Direction Indicator which did nothing more than the enemy spotted icons on the mini-map already do, save more in your direct vision, clearly wasn't a cheat.

That particular mod should be allowed.

Indeed fascinating, given that you play the game yourself so you should be seeing it all the time.

Unless, you're using mods, and you thought that was part of the mods?

That must be the source of your confusion?

That change to the vanilla client happened a couple of years ago. It's one more way that WG is dumbing down the game. The ongoing dumbing down, and the introduction stupid game elements (IS-3A, clown cars with f***ing ridiculous damage absorption and gun accuracy) will one day soon make me give up this game.

Complains about IS3A as dumbing down when it was introduced 3+ years ago and was one of the WORST t8 prems in the game. The autoloading feature wasn't implemented into the game when it came out of ST and then CT. The autoloading feature is a "new" feature brought about when they implemented the Italian line.

Direction indicators aren't showing you anything you couldn't tell by looking at the mini map so unless the Mini map is "dumbing down" the game you are way off base.

It's not a cheat if it is available in the game client.  You can get shot direction, vehicle type, and whether it penned, hit a critical, or bounced.  It'll even tell you how much damage so if it is a blind shot you can guess what vehicle hit you.

If you are in a tank you will know where rounds hitting you are coming from.

On the minimap, I have lines that tell me which way I am facing and which way my camera is facing. But the pack I am running does not have those lines for the enemy or for allies. This has no effect on the game.

Not the way that the IS3a is. the 3A is a reverse "clip" like the Progetto. Pregetto you always want to save that last shell though as the reload is longer for the last round. Whereas the 3A you want to dump the entire 3 rounds and then reload as it's faster.

Shows just how much you pay attention/know about this subject.
