Do I hold out for the U.S TS-5 or go for Soviet T 103?

I don't know much, but you hardly ever see the 103 getting played. For example the TS-5's are common in Frontline while the 103s are not.

The 5, but be prepared for a lot of "critical hits" unless you are willing to upgrade the ammo from time to time

T-103 looks pretty much like a turreted tier 8 SU-100Y.

Well me being the tank destroyer type of guy that I am I went ahead and took a chance and bought this.

I have to say that I am very impressed with this Pig of a tank destroyer!

If Charlie Brown ever took the form of a tank this would be it lol!

I stuck a four skilled crew into it and was able to get a Reload time of just a little over eight seconds this thing is a freaking hammer.

This thing played cautiously can't really punish the hell out of the enemy.

I've had several games already 3000 + damage.

It's funny because I watched Guido's review of this tank whom I have the utmost respect for as he is an outstanding tanker it's funny how nonchalant he was about this tank even though he had several 3000 plus damage games in. Anyways I am far from anything of being a good tanker and I'm a tomato I know but I honestly believe that this tank is underrated.

Pleasantly surprised about the accuracy on this thing as well despite what I've heard I pulled some pretty darn accurate shots with this thing it's fairly long range seems to be pretty consistent. Anyway that's my little irrelevant review for the morning.

The Prot has  substantially thicker frontal armor.  It shoots a little faster, for less average damage (40).  It has better base concealment.  It's side armor sucks (40mm). Face forward.  If angling be careful of sides. It has 10 deg gun depression.  It lacks full turret rotation. It's turret cheeks are flat so they are weak spots.

The T-103 has 100mm side armor.  It has bands of  100mm+ effective armor on front hull and bands of roughly 65mm front armor on hull.  Oh, it has to crappy cuppolas on front hull and front of top turret.  It is better at side scraping than facing frontally.  It has better hull traverse than Prot and has full turret traverse. It has 8 degrees of gun depression.  The T-103 is a barn.  Concealment skills/items do little for it.  Plan on being spotted.

They are both turreted TDs but the they play differently due to armor and concealment issues. Both do well following heavies (if they can keep up and aren't overly exposed). If you can try the T-103 before buying it.  It can be fun, but you have to take it for what it is.

The TS-5 is a good vehicle

but that doesnt matter if you do not like to play casemate tds.  if you want a turret go with the 103, is not having a turret is not a breaking point for you go with the TS-5

The TS-5 seems to be the better vehicle. However, the great thing about the 103 is that it is a TD that plays like a heavy tank. So, for players that want to train up Russian TD crews, but would rather play a turreted style of play, they can use the 103. I would expect the Russian line to eventually one day get a turreted line of Russian TD's.

TS-5 is one of the only free tanks that I actually play. The armor is really troll and the standard ap round is pretty decent to make credits with.

Have the T103 and it's taken getting used too. I've found its best to be slightly aggressive with it and know ahead of time hull down positions. Not a sniper so sitting back and waiting is a waste, not only for your damage but I've found rolling forward in support turns more games into wins. Yes I know my stats are probably average but wins started going up noticeably when playing this tank on the forward line.

Played my first battle with the TS-5 yesterday.  Two plus skill crew.  Did just a tick under 3800 damage in a loss that had three of us going over 3k and the rest of the team failed to break 900 each.  Kept the nose pointed at the enemy and enjoyed the game.  Looking forward to learning the ins and outs of this beast.
