Is there any point in playing a premium tier 8 light tank verses just playing a tier ten light tank?

Many tier 8 premium light tank reviews point out two very prominent negative aspects of playing tier 8 light tanks.

1. Tier 8 light tanks have bad penetration and often need to shoot gold thus ruining the positive credit potential of the premium tank. So it is generally not advised to play a tier 8 light tank for making credits.

2. Light tank match making is such that your tier 8 light tank is often going to be in a tier 10 game. This only makes the low penetration issue of point one even worse.

So many tier 8 light tank reviews simply state that it is often better to just play a tier ten light tank instead of playing a tier 8 premium one.

What do you think of this idea? Are any tier 8 premium light tanks worth playing? If so, why?

Thank you

Except in case of the lt432 and ebr 75 fl 10

Edit: also you don't have to grind to a tier ten lt

To answer the question in your title. I would think extra credit generation and crew training is your answer.

For one thing, prem tank is still a prem.

You get extra crew training in them and won't lose credits.

in the past 8 months I have 800+ battles in the ELC Even 90, and another 850+ the Panhard EBR FL.  Both have influenced more battles to wins than not.  Both are profitable to run.  Both have gotten personal missions done.  Both are arguably more fun than any single tier 10 LT that exists.

I  recently picked up the LT 432 over the weekend, and already have 52 battles in it.

as for tier 10 game play, it is way campier than what one sees at tier 8s, and the map sizes, and view range saturation that happens at tier 10 make playing a tier 10 LT an exercise in frustration more often than not.  I honestly prefer seeing tier 10s in my tier 8 LTs, and save my tier 10 LTs for clanwars when asked to play them...

Premiums make credits and can train crews. The current MM doesn't give nearly as many bottom tier matches as before, quite a few of my tier 8 games are all tier 8. You do usually have the mobility to make low pen work to get into the sides of heavies/Assault TDs and most mediums, lights, TDs, and arty don't have the armor to worry about. If you're worried about being in a tier 9/10 match that much you can play it during Front Line.

1. Better xp for damaging higher tier tanks.

2. Credit earnings instead of costs.

3. The OCCASIONAL game where you aren't low tiered.

4. FUN!

What if your tier 10 light is worse than a tier 8 premium? (I'm looking at you, Manticore).

Playing TierVIII anything against TierX is virtually a waste of time.  All you'll accomplish is false boosting of the TierX's various stats.  Luckily VIII's as bottom of 3/5/7 doesn't happen as much as it used to.  It's not just bad enough to crushed, expect rebuke from others for lack of aggression/camping and probably gold spamming.

I recently bought the HWK 30 mostly to save myself the long grind to get to a tier VIII light (i needed a high tiered LT for the StuG IV missions) but i'm glad i did and i had a lot of fun playing it and made a ton of credits even while shooting gold, some games i never even had to fire my gun but i had a lot of spotting damage.

You're doing it wrong.

In a tier X battle with a tier VIII light, your primary job is not to do damage, is to spot for others.

A tier X monster TD shooting an enemy for 1k dmg with your spotting means  A LOT  of credits.

Yes. The LT-432 is a real beast when top tier and scouts well when it isn't.
