Just completed the mission for the Stug IV out of nowhere after I decided to play light tanks, then afterwards completing the artillery missions with the tokens you get to skip missions. This tank any good or worth playing? Has a bit of armor and good dpm and was wondering if I should push up and brawl in it or sit back and snipe. I'm sure whatever the situation calls for is the better idea. But is this tank garbage?

Its not bad, nothing special either. Kinda mid range, not real accurate so far back sniping is not its thing. Does not have the armour to brawl.

As your first major reward in the game it is pretty disappointing, like most reward tanks from the early game, it's tuned for 2011 power levels.

Many will disagree, but I love mine decent all round, nice reload, nice traverse. Not the worst, but it isn't a m10 rbfm

Interesting, I also earned that tank and have a nice crew for it so if I decide to do some tier 5 games in a TD I will probably opt for that. From what I understand it's also earning more credits whereas the Stug is a reward vehicle that doesn't earn extra credits iirc?

It is a worse Stug III in every way.

Which should make every win you get with it mean ever so much more!

Just to earn a Stug IV means you just might have a clue, winning with it means you do!

I honestly like the normal tech tree Stug III due to the thing having an underwhelming gun that's not even as good as the better sniper gun on the III, and it also has no derp option.

Derp is good.  Derp is life.
Lower tiers and derp is awesome.

Low tiers and a peashooter... a bit less so.

The STUG has a Derp.  STUG's 105 reloads slower, aims slower, and is less accurate than the same gun on the Hetzer.  Plus the Hetzer is good at bouncing if you wiggle.

All around, other than view range and extra gun traverse, the Hetzer is a better TD especially if you like Derp.

It is OK, no more.  But it is a premium so it is good to accelerate crew retraining for new TD as you move up the tech line.  That is the only time I use mine.

Except for matchmaking, the StuG IV doesn't see tier 7s.

I think the tier 5 StuG IIIG is what is being compared here, vis-a-vis the tier 5 StuG IV.  StuG IIIG has the same 75mm as the E25 which is pretty nice. Hetzer > StuG IIIB.

not a tank i would recommend playing often. its free but balanced by having a significant number of drawbacks such as being slow and having a rather lame gun. the L48 is fine on the 3/4, cause its fast and can flank with the poor pen, but having a turretless PZ4 is really gimpy.

The difference is that the reward tank is like a premium tank in that there is no derp option.  You have one gun only, which is MEH, since the thing is slow and a huge target - either it kills what it aims at in its first two shots or gets popped 10 seconds later.   The only reason to even get it is to work towards the other reward mission tanks.

I have been debating on even playing the StugIV that I acquired.  I suppose if it does train crew for future TDs up the tech line it has its uses.

I am a big fan of high concealment in my TDs..so grinding out a crew in something the enemy will see easily is not my cup of tea.  Yet I need another money making TD in the mid tiers...decisions.

Hetz/Stug iii G/ Alecto player.

The Stug 4 is a reward premium TD. It is a free tank so thats good. It is a great trainer if you are new and have yet to grind out a German TD line. If you do decide to play the tank to train your TD crew, you are a sniper not a brawler, so you want to stay back with the sniping TD's and do your best. It is nice because you will only see T5 & T6. so you should be able to do pretty good damage after you get used to the quirks of the tank.

The Stug 3 is the Pimp daddy of all sniper TD's in mid level so to try to think that the Stug 4 will be like the Stug 3 is just silly.

Keep your distance, double bush and watch you middle ring on the minimap and you should do fine,

Cheers
