I am just beginning my Japanese Super Heavy grind and of course, the tank is stock, at this pont.  What would be the most useful ammunition load out for the first gun?  I am currently running with a mixture of all 3 ammo types with about 60, 10,  and 30% respectively but not sure this is what I really need. Thanks for your expertise in this matter.

I run it with even less HE, but with 60 AP rounds you'll be hard press to run out. I find the that increase in damage on the 1st gun doesn't warrant the extra RNG that HE brings.

I prefer the guarantied pen and 300 alpha rather than be trolled and get half of 360.

This post is not a claim to expertise on the O-I nor an expression of desire to become a Japanese Heavy guru.

The OI is fun because all three shell types are actually viable choices. I rarely used the gold round, but it would be for situations were the AP round doesn't quite have enough pen to get through. The AP round is surprisingly good in my opinion. It has really good overmatch ability due to the caliber (so you can do things like shoot IS-3s in the top of the turret for a full pen). The HE is great for blasting lower tier tanks as well as even higher tier tanks if they are thin-skinned. It is a really good gun for that tier.

Thanks for the info.  I have been mainly sticking to AP.

So generally speaking if you are top tier, AP is the way to go. If you are facing tier 8s, start with HE loaded. When you are facing 7s is when it is a bit dicey, your AP is good enough to go through sides and the lower front plate on tier 7 heavies (some of them anyway) and most tier 7 non-heavy fronts, but it isn’t a sure thing.

O-I has the rare quality of having a viable stock gun, I switch between it and the derp from time to time.

I run mostly AP, 10 premium rounds and 10 HE for stuff like T67s with it, GL OP.

I must’ve had the guns mixed up, I thought the 150mm was the stock gun.

Everything I typed was referring to using the 150.
