I had a 17,000 damage game.....0 premium used.

WOW.  I've never gotten close to that.  But then, I'm merely average. What tanks did you use?

It is about the efficiency.  How often do you reach General per game?  If you were 1 shot away from reaching General, you would certainly regret not firing gold at some point.  I have reached maximum Prestige level and only play FL games for crew grinding for training new set of crews.  By reaching higher rank, the XP gain can be quite significant.

You can reach general easier by getting capture/defence points than by doing damage.

Frontlines rewards you with ungodly amounts of credits. The Better you perform, the faster you rank up. More penetrations means more xp, means more rank, so on so forth. I’m sure as hell not shooting IS3’s, defenders and other heavily armored tanks with AP from my t92.

Again, as I mentioned, I was never in a heavily armored tank.

This latest episode coincided with the E-50 on track. Since I was grinding the Panther II and didn't have the big gun I was using premium rounds to actually have a chance to pen something. It worked, I now have the E50 unlocked

I usually hold off and the gold rounds in FL: One usually has the option to flank or rely on your teammates doing so. I do, of course, make exceptions for Defenders, because bouncing off the “weak” lower plate with standard AP is intensely frustrating. Some tanks also need the gold ammo to perform at baseline, even against same tier tanks (i.e: T69) but that applies to random battles just as much as FL

I normally play lights in frontlines, and I almost never shoot gold unless I am close to Major or General, and facing something like a defender.

Normally the majority of my ranking comes from cap work,so I has a negligible effect on my credit earning.

Since I started playing Frontline a few episodes ago....

I've only used a handful of premium rounds.... most often when in tank with relatively bad base pen (sub 200) against a target that really, really needed killing (like a capping heavy). Other than that.... nothing but standard AP rounds with a little HEP mixed in.

Frontline is such a target rich environment that it simply doesn't make sense to waste the credits on gold rounds.... if you can't pen a tank switch focus to a softer one... there are plenty around with the mode favoring meds and lights.
