I am wondering how others that actually have a real interest in tanks and tank warfare manage to seemingly not be totally turned off by the ridiculousness of some of the vehicles in the game. Especially the lower tier autocannon tanks and armored cars...

Drives me crazy to the point that I can't play more than a couple games a sitting. Win or lose... so how do the rest of you put up with it?

When I first started playing I mostly interested in the lower tiers for this historically accurate tanks. However the actual play in those tiers is so bad. Not enough HP or armor and every tank has god like DPM. Games are too short and you fail to make impacts often.

It doesn't get better in higher tiers with the clown cars.

...because it has obviously been an arcade game from the start?

I'm a bit of super sleuth and have the inside track, but what tipped it off for me was:

  • Tanks with HP
  • Magical "revive your crew members from death"
  • Magical "instant track repair in one second"
  • Red outlines on enemy tanks
  • No actual fuel required or mechanical breakdowns
  • Single person view as opposed to crew member views
  • Aiming circles in your UI
  • No need to manually adjust for windage
  • etc

If a game triggers you, you may want to play something less stressful.

Games are generally made for fun and entertainment purposes.

It sounds like your looking for a game that is more simulator less arcade.  WoT is more towards the arcade side of things in the tank game world.

Agreed.  It's an arcade game with tank-looking playpieces.  Fun and annoying at the same time, as most any video game can be.

Isn't it obvious? Drinking, heavy heavy heavy heavy drinking. That may have already been the case, but one less heavy  before this game.

As a former Infantryman; if I can deal with "Call of Duty", a tank enthusiast can deal with "WoT".

Well I know they are video games going in and video games don't frustrated me. Well at least not in the days of stable internet connections, there were a few times I broke things playing D2 when I lost my connection just as I got a super rare drop I literally spent days farming.

WoT is a lot more fun if you compartmentalize the parts of yourself that like history & real tanks separately from the compartment that likes the game. Personally, I put up with it by remembering that WoT has never been an historical simulation, it has always been an arcade game for people who like the idea of tanks.

The moment you decided to play a game with 15 minute battles you should have realized that historical accuracy plays no part in the game. The goal of the game is to convey a look and feel that makes part of your mind go, "Oooh cool, tanks" but that's doesn't mean it has anything to do with recreating history.
