Okay so I have started playing and finished the tutorial, well busy playing it. I can now select 3 tanks to start with ... which one should I choose?

In FPS games I like sniper builds and staying in range, though I am not afraid to get up close with a shotgun

Newbie goals:

  1. Get the KV-1
  2. Learn how armor works
  3. Survive longer
  4. Learn to be proactive (camping kills)
  5. Find a tank that plays how you like to actually play

Go up the American, German and Russian lines.  Get to Tier 5 and research/buy the Sherman, T-34 and PzH medium tanks.  Play each for 100 games each.

I am going to be a F2P player. If I choose a tank I do not like. How long will it take me to get a new tank?

Any of the tier 8 premiums are good to start with... :hiding:

Get into high tier battles and the learning curve quickly lessens... :great:

That depends on the tank tier.

Since you mentioned sniping I was going to suggest a tank destroyer line  but you would need to study and learn the camo and vision mechanics which are not like shooters.

The Russian medium and heavy lines are the most forgiving for new players, and generally the best in the top tiers.

Okay thank you. I do not know Tiers and all this. Pretty new to this game. I was mostly concerned about which of the 3 starting tanks to choose from, and also if I choose a tank I do not like of the 3, how long till I can get a new tank?

You should already have all tier 1's and they are free to get back. Early on up to tier 5 you really are only talking an hour or 2 hours if you are less gifted to grind out low tanks, though silver will be come an issue early on if you are going through them so quick. To get tier 10 it can take weeks to months of gameplay.

Pro-tip do not retrain any 100% crew you have to a tank until you get to at least tier 5. Each time you retrain for silver, this is the minimum you want free 50% is garbage, you lose 10%. Once you are at tier 5 you'll be with the tank longer and will not lose as much.

As a F2P player nothing up to tier 5 really takes any time to get through, but depends on how well your playing. Tier 6 and 7 will take longer but easily done for free.

As for which tanks to get  go for Russian heavies tier 5/6 , Russian or American meds tier 5/6 ,  and for TD"S I'd go for tier5/6 American.

Russian heavies at tier 5 KV-1 and KV-1S introduced you to heavies and their play shows you armor and more mobile heavy play.

The Russian and American meds at tier 5/6 give a good intro into mediun play, also show variations in play style.

The American TD's at tier,5/6 show you TD play but give you a turret to work with while learning other aspects of TD play.

Also maybe play with some arty to show yourself how they work, I wouldn't really go for any light tanks above tier tier 4, they really become scouts and their play style can be hard , wait till you have more experience with the other types in the game.

Take your time as you go up the tiers , save up some credits, i wouldn't go to tier 5 tanks unless i had the credits to pretrain crew to 75% , really helps with you tanks abilities. I think i started this at tier 4 .

Good Luck

As far as your 3 tanks to choose from, DON'T make a choice yet unless it is forcing you to do it now. Wait until you've played some more to decide. Also, did you use an Invite code when you created your account?

One major thing to do is to not rush up the line you choose too quickly. Take your time to get to know the maps and mechanics of the game. You will not have a good time if you are in a hurry.

Good luck and have fun.

Are they still giving out a tier six to new players ?  If so be, leery of plying it until you get some lower tier gmes in.

PS: You only have 3 games , there are invite codes people can send you that give you a free premium to start with.

T-46 is best of the 3

If you want to be food and have a "fun" time being murdered by everything, sure.

I suggest some tier 5s and 6s as starters.  T-34, KV-1, T-150, M4 Sherman w/105mm, M4A3E8 w 76, T-34-85, Type T-34 are all fairly competent vehicles that are mobile but not fast enough to get you into trouble.

Also 57mm on the T-34/Type T-34 the 76mm is dumb.

1. Which 3 tanks are you talking about? If you mean the 3 tanks you pick from as part of the tutorial, then I would go with the Russian one (the green one). Out of the three, it leads to the most new-player-friendly tanks in the game, which will help you learn the ropes less painfully than with other tanks.

2. It will take very little time to get a new tank. You can get to tier 3 in a day, and tier 4 in a couple days. Getting to tier 5 is where the actual time commitment begins; I estimate you would have to play for about a week straight to get one. Each subsequent tier takes about twice as long to unlock, so I would say two months straight of playing a couple hours a day is a reasonable estimate for the time it takes to reach tier 10.

Sniper Builds....

You will find no snipers in early tiers.  At least not what you are thinking of as snipers.  So, that means taking a peek later in the tech trees.  Additionally, a 'sniper' tank usually is limited in 'alpha' - the damage caused per shot.  Finally, a 'sniper' usually has poor armor - thus you are forced to use view range, bushes, terrain, and the in-game viewing circles to effectively manage these tanks.  Hanging in the back and typing 'Let them come' just means you are waiting for your team to die before you collect HP from on-rushing noobs.  Hanging in the back does not maximize your chance of winning.  A sniper is second line offense.  I have to guess (because I rarely play heavies) that the big guns kinda like those mediums keeping the other big guns honest during reloads.

Your first tier with true snipers is probably Tier V.  My VK 30.01H is a 'heavy' tank, but with the top gun (Waffe 75mm) it can reliably reach out and touch someone - hard.  However, its armor will not stand up in a brawl with other heavies - especially Soviet.  The Soviet T-34 with the 57mm can snipe.  I would say that guns that reload in a decent time and have a dispersion of 0.35 or less at Tier V and 0.34 or less at Tier VI could be a starting point.  Take a peek at Tanks.gg.  Then, you have to watch out for tanks that are non-competitive with the sniper gun.  Nobody wants to see your KV-1 pew-pewing from the back corner of the map with a sniper gun.  Finally, there are 'soft stats' commonly clumped together in the term 'gun handling' that dramatically affect your ability to hit shots.

It IS a complicated game.

Right now, I would recommend finding a Twitch Streamer or YouTuber that fits your projected playstyle.  My early recommendations would be:

Jerm

TRUVoodoo

SteelGutsInTN

For knowledge of how to use view range (forward and negative - camo) you really cannot do better than:  4TankersAndDog

And, if you decide to mix in a little Level 1 Brawling with Level 2 Harassment see Guido1212

Happy Hunting
