WG buried their official response to the delay of clan wars on the News and Information thread.  That is one of the least visited channels of the forum and never generates many comments or views.  Reposting here for visibility.

WG are the good guys, the NA servers were attacked to huge DDOS attacks because some NA players thought it would be funny to mess up the party for all of us, wargaming was forced to delay they event in order to repair both the servers and the fame point systems. The DDos’ers won because they knew this would make people angry.

this is not wargamings fault!!

its the people who are on the NA server who are to blame

Allegedly. They have had [edited]up after [edited]up via events and updates for years now. And if they have been dealing with these attacks, why not inform us sooner of these attacks? Why not postpone the campaign as soon as you find out? I am all for pushing it back if need be.

This is a reoccurring trend in their recent and overall history. But I also have an issue with knowing of these things and waiting until virtually the last possible minute to notify of the delay.

Does it suck one day will be V-Day? Sure. Does it suck it is pushed back? Sure. But it's the stuff I state above that makes this a real issue.

There is a great comment on the official forum posting that addresses this.  All game companies pay for server security and have crisis mitigation as part of their operating plan.  Look at blizzard as an example of how to navigate crisis.  When they brought back WOW vanilla there was so much more demand than had been expected they had to buy like....  All the internet's available server space.  They literally bought so much from Amazon that it crashed Amazon momentarily.

Saying someone did something and WG had to respond is true, but it also doesn't acknowledge that WG has, at this point, shown a pattern of poor preparation and no planning for unforseen issues.  Bottom line is that Responses like this simply shouldn't be condoned from a company the size of WG who can better defend servers or finance auxiliary servers for a short term if their primaries are unreliable.

I'd wager Blizzard has more people in their catering department than WG has in total.

O for sure.  But Blizz is looking for space for literally hundreds of thousands of players.  WGNA needs space for what...  20k if ALL of NA is engaged in CW?

Dear players!

A few days ago, technical problems started on the World of Tanks servers: there were difficulties entering the game, as well as periodic problems in the game client itself: lags, hangs, crashes and errors of a different nature.

The cause of the problems is a continuous DDoS attack on our servers.

The problems are especially noticeable in the evening, when the load on the servers increases due to the large user activity.

Now we are doing everything possible to resist the DDoS attack and to establish the stable operation of the game.

That is a post from the RU server. You are saying this is a NA issue. Please try again.

Wargaming is plenty wealthy enough to afford a strong anti-DDoS protection service for ALL of its servers; yet, this still happens? Get real.

You do realize no protection is perfect.  If it was then how is DDOSing even possible.
