I'm getting the T54 and looking at which cannon to get. Comparing them

                          D54.      D;-10T2S

Dam per sho .  320.         320

AP.                     219.         201

DPM.                 2.25 .       2.595

Ai .                      2.             2.5

Disp.                   0.33.      0.39

Depressio .        5          6. degrees

The 54 also loses some cammo and weighs a little more. I've read some of the  comments on the cannons and I lean on the 54 as the standard pen is 18 mm better. But I also read that most just use the premo ammo with 330 pen.

Now DPM is a nice number to compare but since you usually don't sit in 1 place exchanging shells it is a hazy stat if there are other differences like pen. In a medium I am usually moving most of the time and get a shot and move again so pen mens more than dpm. Just curious what do other people like pen or dpm?

I’m on the T-44 right now myself wondering this same thing. I’ve heard that the soft stats (turret and tank traverse dispersion penalties) are better on the DPM one. That plus the gun depression are making me lean that way. Would be curious to see the latest opinions on this as a lot of the threads about this are older.

I'd go for more pen, it has better accuracy anyway.

If you plan to be aggressive and playing up front then get the DPM gun and shoot plenty of HEAT to melt your enemy.

Grinding through the T-44 right now (primarily for the obj 430 and its *very balanced* tier 10 follower) and pondering how to run the T-54 when I get it. Intuition tells me to run the higher DPM gun and to lean on the HEAT when applicable. The lower pen seems well worth the fire rate and gun depression. Interested in what the more experienced tankers have to say about this.

I'd re-frame the question as what your budget is.

If you have the credits to spare to run food and lots of HEAT, then the D-10T gun will work better. The HEAT solves the pen problem, and the food both improves the DPM advantage and mitigates the accuracy/handling disadvantage.

If you're trying to run it cheap, then use the D54 gun. It'll be much more reliable if HEAT and food aren't in play.

Neither is important

Gun handling (hidden dispersion) is what is important, and the winner is the D-10T2S

Hope you don't plan on making credits with this heat flinging machine. Love playing it but unless you're a really good player your bank will suffer.

I went with what most people said to go with at first, the D10 gun, after nothing but frustration I switched to the D54 gun and it made the tank soooo much better. Not only do you hit what you aim at more often, you have a better chance of penning with standard rounds and the DPM difference is barely noticeable. The only big drawback is the -5 degrees of gun depressions but it's not something I really notice that often playing the 54 or 430, likely because they have such good armour you can often take a lot of hits other tanks, like Chinese lights, can't with that kind of depression. BTW, rarely have to fire premium rounds with either gun.

They ruined the Dpm gun when they buffed the turret and gave it another degree of depression just run the D54.

I went with the one with better gun handling.

Putting accurate shots on target (i.e. where I'm trying to actually hit) is more important to me.

I have plenty of credit making tanks so not too worried about credits except to purchase tanks. I even have tier 9 tanks I make credits on if I don't shoot premo. Since I have the 430 and the 430U the T54 will be the iconic different pace tank for me.  lol I have no reason or rhyme to the tanks I play. Right now I will finish tank rewards Sunday and then play whatever I feel like. with almost 100 fully equipped tanks I can only play a few everyday. I play all types and nations except Japanese and Chinese tanks.

The pen is more accurate and has better dispersion and soft stats. You miss one shot with the other gun and you lost the DPM advantage.

People use ap in the heat-54? Learn something new everyday I guess. Pick the gun that has the soft stats you like then press 2 like everyone else.

The DPM gun is the best gun. 201 penetration is actually ok for tier 9 and if you really need it the HEAT exists. 219 pen really isnt a meaningful upgrade.
