OK, so it seems the Jumbo Sherman has been out long enough for people to reach it (I saw some within an hour of the release). It has much better frontal armor, can mount the same guns, and is almost as fast.

So why is the Easy 8 still more popular? Does the Jumbo get thrown in with higher tier tanks? Does it have poor credit farming properties, does it have massive weak spots in the armor?

Or am I just wrong in my estimation of how long it would take someone to reach it?

my easy 8 makes more money than the jumbo from my own experience. but both are fun to play just differant styles on how you use them the jumbo is used more like a speedy heavy than a medium

Since it gets thrown into T8+ matches regularly so its extra armour isn't as useful as you might think. The gun isn't sufficient for frontal attack on most tanks it will face and it is too slow to flank effectively. The E8 just feels more suited for that gun.

It gets put in more high tier matches than the Easy 8, or they get the same  number, the Easy 8 is just better suited to those matches?

It gets matched pretty much the same as the E8 but the E8 is more useful because it can flank a lot better and make use of the fast firing gun.

So the Jumbo is better in Tier 5/6 matches I assume?

I guess so, if you're top tier in the battle it plays more like a fast heavy. It entirely depends on your play style whether you like this tank or not. I personally haven't played heavies or intend too (apart from the Tiger because well it's a Tiger) and I find the E8 more fun.

I've played a lot in both, and i think that if you played the E8 with the M1A2, and tried to do it again in the Jumbo, you'd be disappointed. The Jumbo is not nearly as nimble. On the other hand, if you came to the Jumbo via the M4 with the 105, you find every thing you liked about the M4, plus armor.

I didn't do well in the E8, but am at 60% win rate in the Jumbo, and pretty close to 1:1 K/D. It really comes down to preferred play style.

My observation is that i am starting to see games where i am not the only E2 anymore. I frequently see more than one per battle, and have seen as many as four. Keep in mind that before the tech tree changes, there was only one medium route you could take, and that included the E8, so everyone had to go that route. Now you can choose (and even AVOID the Lee!), so the people you see driving the Jumbo have it because they WANT to, not because they HAVE to.

It is treated exactly the same as the Easy 8 by the matchmaker as far as I know, they are both tier 6 mediums.  The reason you see less of the E2 is because there has not been time for the number of E2 owners to come anything close to the number of Easy 8 owners.  Just to give you an example, the last Tiger (H) vs Tiger (P) numbers I saw 3 days ago for the European server was 41067 Tiger (H)s to 3447 Tiger (P)s.

I see alot of jumbos. Strangely, I see very few with the 105. I think people either just suck at adapting, or are gluttons for punishment. People don't always flock to "the best tank" unless its a late tier, like the swarms of E50s and T59s when patches first hit, or the Lowe. Lordy the Lowe. Eventually everyone just goes back to playing what they typically enjoy. I like the 105 derpman, so I play the jumbo alot.

Yes, the Tiger P is a perfect example of a far superior tank that is strangely not nearly as common as its inferior cousin.

I love the Jumbo with the 105 "mini-DERP" gun. I sold the E8. The Jumbo, for me, was simply more fun to play. yeah, the 105 is only HE, but the rate of fire is good and even though I am not doing tons of damage with each hit, the poor bastard on the other end doesn't have a single undamaged module when I am done with him.

I think the Jumbo comes close to Tier 7 T-29 armor on a Tier 6 medium. When you do get in Tier 6 games, it's a force to be dealt with. Even in higher tier games, the front armor and turret has had many it's share of surprising bounces - to the annoyance of my opponent.

Mobility = doing more damage to the enemy on average.

Like most have said, Jumbo is quite different.  I have it elited, but use the 105mm.  Its a bulky version of the M4.  You'll bounce your tier if they don't aim properly, which many don't have time to do in a brawl.

The E8 just has the diversity that makes it fun to play.  I find that after playing it, its hard to put up with the speed of a heavy or anything slower.  But I don't find myself pissed off in any role: distance, peekaboo, town maneuvers, open field flanking, etc.  Where as the Jumbo is more of a park and shoot.  The 105mm works at distance on stationary targets.  And up close, angle your armor when looking out of a corner.  The limit of the Jumbo for me is those 2 methods, with the ability to relocate with decent speed.

One never stops, while the other does. (with my setup)

Both get tiered into tier 7/8 regularly.

One of them has an HE spamming Howitzer that will inflict damage regardless of oppositions armor.

Mobility is overrated since warping got fixed. With the exception of the new 72kph lights, anything going 50 or lower is easily hit, and the E8 is no exception. Its top speed is nothing special, especially when combined with its fat and tall profile. Its gun is also a piss poor sniper weapon, unlike the panthers, which at least have very sick guns to go with their mobility.

Speed? Not to mention you have two tier 5 led to E8 as well.

And it is easier to get M6 view T1HT.

Jumbo just isn't fast or agile enough to flank with the M1A2, and thats how I tend to play in the higher-tier matchups that these can get into over the M4. It's a great Derp platform, though.
