I will probably go up to the Tier VI VK and stop for German lights.  But if I wanted to keep the Leopard or the Luchs on the way up, which one?

Which do you like more? Both?

Well there's your answer! :)

I liked both, but don't play my luchs anymore and rarely my little leo.

The luchs is one of the few OP tanks in the german tech tree.   I stopped playing it after they reworked the LT trees.  I liked it when it got mostly tier 5-7 games.   I just couldn't stand the low tier game play in tier 4 battles.  It was atrocious, and no amount of clubbing could ever ever make up for it.   So, after solo pubbing 1k battles to a 62% win rate in the old LT MM I parked it.

The Leo has the same feel as the luchs since they both use the same autocannon, but is more sluggish to turn.   Get controlled impact and suspension and ram for lols.    Occasionally I will bring it out for a challenge every now and then, but it's nowhere as good tier for tier as the luchs.   It's still good, just not as OP as the luchs.

The VK2801 used to be real fun with the derp gun, but two rounds of nerfs have completely neutered what used to be a decent LT.  It's pretty meh now.  It has absolutely nothing special going for it.   Everything past that is garbage except for the RU251.  The tier 10 RhmPzw is the absolute worst... don't even think about getting it.

The only reason I'm going to the VK is that Tier VI often starts The Goodness at times.   Events and whatnot.,  Like Battle Pass.

Go for the Leo since completely ruined the Luchs now. They nerfed it's firepower into the ground and took the fun right out of it. WG devs suck crap imho.

Funny how everyone so far has referred to these scouts in fighting terms.

I didn't like the auto cannon in either of these tanks, which I still play.  Smooth Ride and snap shot for both tanks, and the leopard I use the Vertical Stabilizer then with the 50mm that fires basically 1 every 2 seconds I find works better.

The Luch I use both Binocs and Coated Optics together with vents/BIA and you can spot everything higher tier.  Leopards is a little more of a brawler and can ram stuff pretty good, I just use the Binocs, VS, and Vents and still has better spot and decent camo.  The Luch radio is about half the range of the Leopard, so that comes into play on some of the bigger maps.

One thing to note on the 50mm gun, even though both tanks use the same gun the Luch pen is 67 while the Leopards' is 100, for whatever reason.

If I ever get to the German line again, I'm going to run both - just to get revenge for the shreddings I have gotten from players in the little sh!tzes. :playing:

i think the luch is stronger at tier 4 than the leo at tier 5.

there is very little to compete with the luch for mobility.

Scout early, kill tanks from midgame on.

The auto cannon is preferable. You can reliably take between 1/2 and 3/4 of a tank's HP away before needing to relaod. Unfortunately the fire rate of the Luchs was nerfed badly, so the single-shot gun may be the better choice now.

The Luchs was nerfed to the ground with the 1.9 update. The rate of fire of the autocanon was reduced and it now fires in two shots bursts, dispersion and aiming time were increased. And they added a range limit of ... can't remember now but it's much shorter than the rest of the guns in the game. In other words you can only reliably do damage when you're at very short range.

The Leo only got the HP and ammo capacity increase. I think that's the better choice of the two now.

That's exactly how my Luchs was set up.  As an ambush scout.  Jump out, dump clip on unsuspecting enemy, and hide.

I didn't realize they nerfed the luchs, but tbh it really was OP and needed something done to it.   Being as this is WG they probably went too far, just like they did with the vk2801.

Gonna have to try out the little leo to see how it behaves now.

I've got a 17 second reload, but it's not even a 100% crew yet and no food running.  Does have vents, though.

With the right terrain it does a circle of death pretty well.  But if I don't pay attention and slam into a building.....ouchies.

I guess what I'll end up doing is just play the snot out of both and decide which one is funner.[sic]  The Leopard is still pretty much stock, so the comparison is not really fair.  Yet.

And HM1967, I've only got 34 garage slots in this account - I need to pick and choose carefully what gets kept.  :teethhappy:

Leopard with the 3 cm gun.  Ignore the temptation of "long range", with the 5 cm.  The dispersion is god awful and you'll end up hating life.  Take the gatling gun, be patient, SPOT first and most importantly, and then assassinate.  If you're not averaging 1.5k combined, you're doing it wrong.

Keep the Leopard at Tier 5 and try the Pz38 nA at Tier 4. It's very underrated and very good, better than the Luchs.

I preferred the leo but rarely play low tiers anymore. I also preferred it with the 5cm as its useful in more situations. Sure its fun to machine gun down a lower tier with the pewpew but you waste most of your time trying to set it up when you could be applying damage far more consistently from typical scouting positions. I also prefer it because you can keep tanks permatracked.

Oddly enough, I have a great deal of fondness for that little beast, from my other account.  I may take your advice on that!
