I observed that the damage maximum indicated on the arty’s (exemple: the m41HMC) are wrong, it show that the damage maximum (or approximative) is 550, but i never saw this number, even when i direct hit another arty (that doesnt have armor), the maximum i did was around 300 damage. Did they exaggerated the maximum damage possible or its another thing? Thx too answer.

ps: the damage isnt affected by distance travelled.

you need to pen for full damage, which is quite rare

Those are laboratory, so to speak, figures.  They will almost never match up on the live server.  It's like the shown top speed of a particular vehicle is almost impossible to due, unless your going down hill.

THIS OP.

If HE doesn't pen then half that damage potential is immediately lost.   It has to pen to get a chance to roll for full damage.

It's why open top tanks are sooo juicy.

HE shells rarely do their full damage potential even when they should easily pen (like arty or open topped TDs with thin armour). I think some of the damage potential gets used up destroying modules instead of vehicle HPs. Hard to say for sure because the way HE is supposed to work is already complicated according to the wiki, and it does not usually work like it should anyways, as Wargaming admitted during the ammo rework Sandbox.

Especially when by chance you ammo rack an open top what a light show it is.
