Can you ammo rack a tank that has no ammo in its ammo rack? I know that it isn't like WT where shooting a tank with less ammo in its rack decreases the chance of explosion, but what if the tank has no ammo left in the rack? It doesn't make sense that it can explode then, has anyone tested this, or is this another little thing that Wargaming missed?

A tank with no ammo will never suffer an ammo rack explosion. But if you carry even 1 shell, then you are just as likely to suffer ammo rack damage as a tank with hundreds of shells.

Back in the day ( 2012/13 ) we were told that the amount of ammo in a rack does not effect the chance of ammo racking a tank, with the exception of ZERO ROUNDS means no explosion.

Later, ( 2015/16? ) they amplified this to say that since there are 3 types of shells on a tank, there are 3 ammo racks, and they are independent for the purposes of "zero shells preventing an explosion". This lead some players to decide to only carry ONE type of shell to (possibly?) reduce their chances of getting racked.

I seem to recall some comment from a dev  later ( maybe 2018 ) saying it is hypothetically possible for a completely empty ammo rack to still explode, but the chances were so low that they doubted it had ever happened on any server. Dunno any more about that.

This as both have been answered in Dev Q&As before.  Ammo type also doesn't affect ammo rack chances, but HE or HESH will send the turret flying farther due to a bigger explosion from that ammo type.  Again answered in dev Q&As back when For the Record was still FTR.

Found part of it and something extra.

- the amount of shells left in your ammo rack does not influence the chance for ammorack explosions (SS: but if the rack is completely empty, it can't explode - that's one exception)

- vehicle velocity doesn’t depend on full/empty ammo rack

So that's why the turret on my T6 Medium with the 105 Derp gun flies so far when I get ammo-racked, it's all HE and HEAT ammo.
