I was looking at various tech trees this morning. I think I can go down the Russian heavy line and avoid playing the KV-2? Did I read this right?
Before anyone asks, from my limited experience, and listening to others, the KV2 just seems like it's too easy with that big gun.

Yes, the KV2 is a bridge that goes into the TD line. If you want to stick with the heavies, go with either KV1S or T150.

In terms of the KV2 being easy, I see it as more of a fun meme tank than a good tank. Its fun to play occasionally for the lolz but has inconsistent gun (Your shot can 1 shot someone, or it can do like 200 damage depending on where you hit with the bad gun handling). Its further balanced with poor armor for its tier and slowness.

This. For every giggle inducing smackdown of 1065 vs a squishy tank you’re going to hit a IS for 250 because you didn’t penetrate with HE and have him come and smack you for 390 in return. The KV-2 is a fun tank, but the only easy thing about it is you don’t have to aim as carefully to do damage. You still have the 20 second reload, and it’s still pretty slow, and you still only have useful armor at the top of your turret. You’re pretty easy to pen everywhere else. I still like playing it though, so much so I bought the KV-2R as my first premium tank long ago. Believe it or not, you actually have to be a little bit sneaky with it, often trying not to appear in the same place every time or making sure you can get away during the reload vs a regular brawling heavy.

Do yourself a big favor and avoid the IS-4 line. it's a relic from a previous century and it will only give you headaches and pains. At least wait until they buff the IS-4, whenever that will be. IS-7, Obj.777 and Obj.705A are all great tech trees branches.

I think they already buffed the IS-4. That being said, I did not care for the T-150 and agree totally about this line not being fun.

To play the KV-2 successfully is not easy at all.  With its long reload time, it's one of the most difficult tanks to learn to become competent with.  This is what can make it so much fun to play.  :)

Thanks for the input. I guess from an outside view, and ignorant on the tank, it just seemed they would be easy due to the "derp" cannon. I see them destroy almost anything in front of them, so I assumed so. I know, never assume anything.

The derping can be easy, and a one shot can be hilarious but there's a price to be paid for that.  With poor armor, bad vision, and enemies lurking ready to pounce on you and rip you to shreds right after you fire, timing is very important.   And a one shot is not a guarantee.  It's wise to be near allies and not be caught alone.  IMO, everyone in this game owes it to themselves to get some KV-2 battle time.

Once you get a good crew and throw some equipment on it, the KV-2 becomes a blast to play. Sure it is one of the most RNG dependent tanks in the game, but there is nothing quite like popping around the corner to one shot an equal tier tank. If I'm having having a bad day in WOT, generally that's when I pull out my KV-2 to lighten the mood.
