IS-3 sidescraping on the heavy flank in El Halluf alongside an E 100, Super Conqueror pulls out, badly sidescraping on that one corner in the top left of the map that no one should be trying to peek out of (I was in the spot seen behind me, he fell back)

Bounces me once with AP, switches to their HE. Misses one shot, and then hits me with a one in a million "why tf is that a hitbox!?" shot. This game is a joke sometimes. On the tank's model itself, you can't even see in-between that seam, so why is it a hitbox??

Edit: For those of you who can't find where it hit, look to the side of the gun mantlet.

This is one of a few examples of how stupid RNG gets in this game, and for once, bad hitbox design. A shell wouldn't even fit in there, so how would it pen!? Especially an HE shell!?

And for those of you who don't mind a plug, this also happened:

Absolutely tired of getting penned in these stupid locations when doing everything right, you can go hull down, sidescrape, whatever, it doesn't matter at the end of the day because some random numbers decide how well you'll do. Trying to get three marks in this thing is almost impossible.

Maybe it's just me, but I have no clue where you are pointing at on the model in either picture.  Maybe annotate those to make your point better.

Tiny little seam directly to the side of the gun mantlet.

Pretty sure the shells in game are not correctly modeled to the size they should be.  As that would make the penetration mechanics too hard for the game to calculate properly.  Since that gap looks like it's 20mm across and the shell that hit you is at least 75mm across.  Basically it's a game not a sim, don't expect logic to work here!

This is just HE shell mechanics at work to be honest OP.

If I remember correctly, when an HE shell hits armor, it "explodes" and then penetration calculations are done against the thinnest armor in that explosion radius.

So, that HE shell hit close enough to that armor hole.

**NOTE: This is just off of memory, and could very well be wrong.

Not gonna lie... I'm going to load one or two HE into some of my tanks that are likely to be in a staredown with the IS-3.  Going to see how reliable that can be.

What happens is that when a HE shell hits a normal penetration calculation is made.

If it pens then it rolls for full damage using the alpha listed on the shell.

If it doesn't pen then the server does the thing you're describing where it goes "what is the thinnest armor around here" and calculates the damage using that armor and a reduced alpha.

Ah, okay. Thank you for the information!

I played a tourney where my team managed to win a brawl that we were losing by someone whipping an HE shell into the opponent's S Conq. RNG just be like that sometimes.
