Rumor:  next Halloween event will feature a mode where there are 15 arties per side and only arties nothing else!

 

Now that is really scary!

Three or more can make some maps unplayable unless you just camp hard.

 

But no arty can stalemate matches on some maps into a boring wait until one side gets bored and tries something scenario.  I hate those because, well, I don't play this game to wait 5 minutes for someone else to get bored before I do.  These are the ones with hull down tanks with lock, down terrain where the only way through is a coordinated all at once push (which doesn't happen in pubs often).  Having an arty cost for sitting at point forces some movement.

They have more 2 tier MM

Don't forget that the Asia server is China run so they can do stuff that the others can't,  like sell the WTE100.

2 T1-4, 1 in T5, 2 in T6-7, 3 in T8-10.

 

If you can't handle 3 in 8-10 and take it like a man if you get out of position, maybe you should stick to T1-4.

No, its not actually.

 

China has its own server, which has all sorts of wierd tanks and rules.  Got nothing to do with ASIA server.

If you thought this was p2w, you should google what they do on the China Server.  I haven't looked in years but the last time I looked - You can only get prem ammo when you buy a prem tank.  They've had Tier 10 premiums for sale for ages.

There is nothing wrong with artillery, it's just another type of game mechanic.

I played arty last night going for campaign missions.  A few observations:

 

1) The campy static games were dirty, anyone lit was hammered with three arty plus any other direct fire tanks.  I felt bad being part of the beat down on an otherwise well played tank.

2) The dynamic games were fine to play the M53/M55 but the Russian arty with the narrow arc was frustrating...so the reverse, dynamic game play makes one less likely to get smacked by arty.

3) Medium tank deployment really dictates arty success.  If a team has slow arty and leaves a flank bare they will find themselves in a corner without arty and will have nowhere to hide.  No doubt they curse arty then.

4) Some players shouldn't play scouts.  On Prokhorovka came down to an end game 3 vs 5, me in arty, a T95 with 35 HP and a full health scout behind us in the back corner...just basic passive scouting out in front of us could have won it.  I ended with 4600 damage, half of it blind shots based on breakage and map knowledge.

Optimal? 2. Well, as long as zero isn't an option. And it's not, and for good reason.

 

And I'm not talking about avoiding being shot by arty; that's a matter of skill, one which few players work on ime.

 

No, I think 3 arties actually gimps your own team. I would always rather have an "effective" on my team, that is to say, something that can actually move and see and shoot, over weird specialist tanks that can't, like arty, super-heavy/slow TDs/heavies, etc.

 

Arties are somewhat useful on certain maps, but even then, give me a team of all mediums and we'll kick your butt. :)

 

Seriously, is there any more sinking feeling than the end of the game, and they have two half-dead effectives, but all you have left is 2 arty? Not good.
