Welcome to the World Of Tanks 2020 Holiday Season Model Building Challenge!
Greetings and happy holidays tankers!
Welcome to the official World of Tanks modeling challenge for the 2020 holiday season. With the ongoing pandemic, and so many of us being cooped up inside, I wanted to create an event that might help occupy some of your free time over the next month or so. I also wanted to give a nod to the extremely experienced scale modelers, military history fanatics and tread-heads we have here on the forums who have helped make World of Tanks what it is from the start. You guys rule and I've been very impressed with seeing some of your creations!
The Challenge:
Participants will have thirty days from the time of contest start to construct and complete their models. Models must be representative of any vehicle featured in the game in a historical or hypothetical context. Want to do Tiger 1 T-34 or Ferdinand at Kursk ‘43? Awesome. Want to show a “what if” of E-100 in Berlin ‘45? Awesome. Get creative and bring your best work. As a general rule for both categories, the entry must be something new and original you created for this contest. Due to the fact we have so many experienced model builders in the community it wouldn't exactly be fair to allow something you've already done to be entered.
entries will be divided into two categories:
-Traditional
-Go Wild
Traditional Category
Participants will utilize any combination of off-the-shelf kits (a scale of their choosing, 1:35, 1:72, 1:144, etc) from the manufacturer of their choice (Hasegawa, Dragon, Tamiya, Revell, WoT Branded Italeri kits, etc) or will utilize a 3D printed or traditional hand carved wood model. Models in this category will be judged on their:
- Overall theme
- Quality of paint job
- Quality of weathering
- Overall attention to detail and cool factor
Extra credit/preference will be assigned to those who undergo extra effort (I.E, thematic diorama bases, lighting effects, other above and beyond efforts.)
Go Wild Category
This category is for participants who have a really creative side but are not necessarily experienced traditional scale model builders. Participants will construct a model of a chosen vehicle from the game utilizing only commonly available household items. Papercraft, origami, toilet paper tubes, cardboard, whatever you want! This super cool Tiger 1 by Emangameplay is a perfect example of what we're looking for in this category, as is this Panzer 38(t) by Monami Ohno. The only restrictions that will apply are the following:
- No printing pre-camouflaged papercraft models off the internet allowed. If paint is present, must be hand applied, airbrushed, crayon, pastel, or any other hand-done colorization method you can think of.
- No 3D printing allowed in this category.
Models will be judged on
- Outright creativity (did you build a KV-2 out of popsicle sticks? Amazing.)
- Quality of paint job (if present)
- Overall theme of model and diorama (if present)
- Overall cool factor

Your wonderful creations will be judged by the Wargaming Community Staff and The Chieftain himself. Bring your a-game and let's see what you can do! Both categories will have first, second and third place winners and will receive the following prizes:

I certainly hope everyone has a good time and I look forward to seeing what you create! I am a huge fan of unique kitbashes and "what-if" type builds such as Wilhelm Models Flakpanzer E-100. I also would like to see what some of you are able to do with the EZ-build WoT branded kits via cool kit bashes and paint. Feel free to share your build logs and progress here with us on the forum! Good luck and let the games begin!
