From my POV, anyway:
The good: I will presumably get to keep driving toy tanks around, tanks that make their own pew-pew noises, saving me the trouble;
The bad: Gonna have to learn a whooooole new system of crew management, which may be even worse than the current one;
The ugly: Losing the specialty crews, paid or unpaid - Sabaton, Offspring, Christmas Ladies, Snow Maidens.
Bonus possible ugly: No more Stuffed Reindeer Girl.

The tanks will still go pew-pew, and that's the importantest (so to speak) part for me.
But will still miss the ambience.

The reality is that the instructor system lets us keep our special crews while abstracting away the generic crew. It is actually ingenious solution.
As for ambience, we will get to see bigger portraits of the special crew side-by-side. That is actually an improvement on the current ambience. Also, from the screenshots, I think you can still choose which instructor to speak for the commander. So you will keep Chuck Norris's voice if you really need that ambience.

I am treasuring my time where Chuck is under MY thumb and has not yet been deemed worthy of a tank. I thus have no idea what he sounds like in game.

But what the H#$% does that even mean? I KNOW what a driver is, I know what a gunner is, I know what a loader does. An instructor makes it sound like the commander is in some sort of driver's education vehicle....
There is a system in place that is actually very good but is in need of some cleaning up and expansion. Rather than doing so they are going to fix what isn't broken by inserting a new system that looks nebulous and removes a part of the game that many players genuinely enjoy in crew development.

My guess is that the people who care about their individual gunners/drivers/radiomen is far less than the people who would want a more streamlined system.

Which is pretty short sighted. Once you finish researching the tech trees the next most satisfying progression is crew development. They are just shooting themselves in the foot.
