Play more Premiums, lay off the gold shells and consumables, also if you sitting on a bunch of gold you can convert it to credits. You can always sell a tank.
Cheers

i would not suggest converting gold
you have discovered the grind... if you have premiums, set aside some time each session to play some, or even devote a few sessions to play strictly premium tanks, don't load any gold more than maybe 1-2 its up to you.. and no food/coffee etc...
that's the method i have used...
check for any old modules etc in the depot you can sell off like tracks, engines etc

Don't buy credits or sell premiums. There are better uses for gold if you convert them or real money if you buy those bundled packages.
General ways to increase credits.
- Premium account.
- Premium tanks. One more reason not to sell them the other is the training potential. Be advised some reward tanks do not get the credit boost even though they are premiums. Still no reason to sell them in my opinion.
- Platoon. Be advised dynamics or platoons made in battle do not get the xp or credit boost. Only platoons that you enter the battle in get the bonuses. Also the credit boost is 10% the 15% mentioned is a misnomer. More here, http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/639660-15-bonus-for-platoons-questions/page__pid__12711572#entry12711572
- Do more damage and/or earn more xp as credits are directly and indirectly tied to both. More here, https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Battle_Mechanics#Experience_and_Credits
- Run credit boosters.
- Run on a budget per the others. Don't spam premium ammo and cut back on premium consumables.
Short term ways to "find" credits.
Sell consumables, ammo you may no longer have guns for, equipment, customization stuff (i.e. emblems, camo, etc...) and/or modules you don't use or won't need. Remember you'll get half of the current price for them. Be advised if you're grinding lines some modules may be used for different tanks. So it's better to hold those than sell them for half and then half to buy them back at full price. Same thing for tech tree tanks. You''ll get half of what they cost. And the same thing for the modules mounted. So if you sell an elited vehicle you'll have buy it back and any non stock modules at full price.

Stop going Up Tier! When you run out of credits, it means You Are Doing It WRONG.
There's no other answer to this question other than, "Pony up some cash to WG and buy more."
If you continually advance up the tiers two things happen: You run out of credits and you have poorly trained crews. Is there a correlation?
Your overall playing skill seems in line with a better than average player at your number of battles, in general. So all you have to do is SLOW DOWN and stay with tier VI (where you seem to have the most units at the moment) and build up your bankroll. As you build up this credit level, yes, go ahead and sell tanks, modules, ammo, badges, flags, equipment and consumables IF YOU FEEL YOU MUST to keep playing.
If you only want to buy another tank and not just manage the ones you have, then just stick with a few tanks at those tiers (and use your Premiums at tier VIII, I guess) to grind for credits, train your crew up and get YOU valuable game time experience actually playing the tiers long enough to know the tanks you play and play against.
Then, when you can afford the new tank and have plenty of credits banked, you can move into that tank and start it all over again. The grind is the game. The game is the grind. If you just like playing as I do, you won't even notice it.
Hang in there. Be patient. This is not a race. It's a progression over time.

Do not EVER convert gold to credits as an above poster suggested.
The easiest way way to make credits in this game is to have a tier 6 and tier 8 premium tank that is used in detachments.
you don't have to be in a clan to join these matches, but it does help.

The only tier where a player will lose credits overall no mater what is tier 10.
Even when I was FTP I never ran out of credits.

Play tiers 5-6 with regular tanks and try to concentrate mainly from tier 6-8 with premium tanks (you should make credits at lower tiers with premiums as well but not as much). Don't play any tank that needs gold rounds to pen the front weak spots. Learn front weak spots. Buy a premium account or wait till you can get some free days. Use small repair and med kits only.
Play Frontlines when its available! Just play it for the whole week even if you don't like mode with premium tanks and a credit booster if available and remove ALL premium rounds from tanks. Watch the credits pile in.

You might consider Twitch Prime loot, for rental 8's.
Given you are not playing much/often, it might be better use of wallet than Premium Account.

Play a premium.
Get premium time.
Dont use premium ammo.
Dont use premium consumables.

Use credit boosters.
Platoon (15% more).
Join a clan who pop clan credit boosters.

OP...all the above is good advice but check one other thing. Click the exterior tab - custom tab and then check all your decals, emblems and subscriptions. Go through them all and if you are like many of us there could be literally millions of credits available to you. Some you cannot sell but many you can.
Also check your consumables in the depot. I don't use sm fire ext. and currently have 2333 of them and at 1500 cr per, they are worth a cool 3.5 million alone and that is just the fire ext. So, if you don't use them ... sell them. That may solve your credit problem.
