I'm getting annoyed, lately when I shoot the lower plate of vehicles, I get a no damage critical hit and the after battle report shows no modular damage. What the hell was the critical hit to then?

The driver most likely.

install the battlehits mod, it helps figure out where the heck that weird shot went after the match.

My favorite is aiming for the middle of the upper plate or the turret while being close enough for the crew to take a dump on the other tank only to magically hit the track instead.

No damage means no pen so you are hitting an external module. Could be the tracks, parts of the suspension, viewports or the gun. If the critical damage reduces the module health by less than 50% it still functions normally and is not considered a damaged module in the after battle report (even though it suffered some damage in the form of lost HPs). Once you damage a module for more than 50% of its HPs, the module functions at reduced capacity and then will show up as a damaged module in the after battle report.

I find this predicament to be most common when firing on Russian tanks. It probably has something to do with all the funky angles and spaced armor they're covered in.

TRUE useless feature when we shoot at red tanks.

I had a "get 15 critical hits" mission yesterday.
In one battle every shot that I hit (15) said critical hit, yet after battle I had 7 in the report.

Someone said install battlehits mod that will help immensely in general with understanding where your shells go. With this specific case, your shell probably missed and went under the tank and hit a track.

I don't think you get credit for critting a track past the initial break

Agree, it's just annoying when you're trying to keep track but the game is essentially giving you false information.

This is my understanding as well.  Those "critical hits" are doing some module damage just not enough to damage (or destroy) it.

As to what you're hitting the earlier mention of the battle hits mod can help.

And I think Kilphie is correct on tracks unless they kit the tracks to full HP.

What ammunition where you using? HE or HESH?

If so, striking the LFP can splash the tracks with HE effect.

The shot itself may deal no damage as in too weak, say when you attack something thick like Maus or 268V4 with tiny caliber HE, but radius maybe enough to damage track module.

But if you were using HEAT, AP, APCR. I am sure this is what happened::

It may appear you shot LFP, as many cases they are the same appearance. But you instead shot spaced armour struts that envelope the axles and road wheels. You penetrate the spaced armour easy, usually 30-50mm, but then fail to pen the tank body afterwards. The critical hit** is for penetrating the spaced armor.

Mod that shows where the client thinks your shots hit and where you were hit.  Since it's on your side only and not the server, it's not exactly correct but generally close enough.

My favorite is having your reticle completely filled with the 'turret' face of a Waffle, pulling the trigger and nothing happens.

Ghost shells are even more annoying than 0-damage crits..

In all my battles I've never experienced this. I'd recommend watching your ping levels and turning on the server reticle.

Unless you're firing HE if you got a critical hit and no damage you didn't hit the lower plate, you hit the tracks.

Not always the case.

If it really hasn't happened to you are very lucky. More likely you are just not noticing when they do happen. I use server reticle and have reasonably steady ping. I notice ghost shells several times per week and there are likely many that I don't notice in the heat of battle. They are most obvious when your aiming circle encompasses most of the tank and there is no sky in the aiming circle at all (missing the tank would mean hitting the ground or a wall behind for example). You pull the trigger but there is no tracer and no hit registers. Its definitely not a simple miss either as there was no shell strike visible anywhere within the aiming circle. The shell just "disappeared" like a ghost. Another variant of ghost shell has the shell fire correctly with a visible tracer, but then it passes clean through the target without doing any damage as if the target tank was a ghost. Those types of ghost shells are demonstrated pretty regularly in CC videos.
