Today's gem from the transcript of a Tank Destroyer Board meeting: "Bazooka is not very satisfactory for firing inside a tank"

Does mean Firing the Bazooka through the breech of the main gun? Because that would be pretty interesting to see if at all possible, kind of like an early shillelagh missile, only more dangerous... and scary.

Probably out the pistol port on the rear/side of the turret.

Well, it could mean standing up in something like a Hellcat or Wolverine and firing from the open roof...still, probably NOT a great option to fire a bazooka while you're around a ton of ammo

The back-blast would be murder ...

So do you pay +2 for accuracy on the To-Hit DR, or do you be Men and suck-up the back-blast with a -2 TEM on the Backblast Column?

AARRRRRR !!!

(if no one else gets it, I know Walter will ... )

I haven't even got there yet and I am dreading it. I hate the KV-4 so much. I have had the KV-4 since they made the heavy line split however long ago that was and can't get myself to finish the thing because of me disliking it so much

AARRRRRR !!!

I never said it was a -good- idea. Just that you could probably stick the stovepipe out that hole, and maybe manage to actually point it at something without the back of the 'zook being obstructed. Much. Maybe..

Actually firing it safely? Yeah... Not going to happen.

I'm actually looking forward to the ST-I, since I love my KV-4...but I do well with slow heavily armored tanks.

For those asking about Movie Fury tank hatch locks.

Most American armor vehicles have internal hatch locks on all hatches with one hatch setup to be unlocked unless manually locked from inside or outside. All the rest lock on closing in the Sherman the internal / external lock hatch is the loaders when two hatches are present on the turret or the Commanders hatch when only a single hatch is present. Vehicles on display may have external hold downs added or Hatches welded shut to prevent entry. On the M113 Family of APC and Derivatives which I taught on the Drivers hatch was the one with dual lock setup the rear cargo hatch and commanders hatch were slam lock setups.

http://the.shadock.free.fr//sherman_minutia/cupolas/cupolas.html Note Sherman commanders position was on Right side of turret with loader on left of gun and gunner in front right of turret lower than commander. Some Photos are labeled as if Cupola was for loader. Some Photos show external padlock setups on the drivers hatch also. Loader hatches once introduced were in a variety of configurations.

Under battle conditions with injured crew members fully securing a damaged tank from the inside is not always as easy as it seems in training. The latches can be awkward to twist into position and secure. I have spent time in both display vehicles and range target damaged ones and have seen these problems first hand.
